Antidiabetic activity of Strobilanthes ciliatus in streptozotocin-nicotinamide induced experimental diabetic rats

Abstract:

The primary objective of this study was to determine the anti-diabetic activity of Strobilanthes ciliatus in streptozotocin-nicotinamide induced diabetic rats In the present study the antidiabetic effects produced by the aqueous and alcoholic extract of whole plant of Strobilanthes ciliatus were investigated in the Streptozotocin-Nicotinamide induced experimental diabetic model. The alcoholic extract showed significant reduction in blood sugar level when compared with normal rats (p<0.05). This investigation demonstrates significant antidiabetic activity of Strobilanthes ciliates. The administration of Strobilanthes ciliatus have an anti-diabetic effect in streptozotocin-nicotinamide induced diabetic rats and their effect was equivalent to that of reference drug Glibenclamid.
