Dr. Isaac N. Nwankwo, Omebe Matthew and Anikeze Christiana

Abstract:

The main purpose of the study was to determine the extent of teachers’ instructional monitoring for quality teaching and learning in public and private secondary schools in Ebonyi state. One research question and one null hypothesis guided the study. It was a descriptive survey and all the public and private secondary schools in the three education zones in the sate namely: Abakaliki Afikpo and Onueke were covered. The study population constituted a total of 10, 360 whereas the sample was made up of 1036 teachers selected through proportionate random sampling technique. An instrument developed by the researchers was used for data collection. The face and content validity of the instrument was determined. The reliability of the instrument was determined using Cronbach Alpha which yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.82. The researchers collected data with the help of three research assistants who are teachers in secondary schools in the state. Mean was used to answer the research question while the null hypothesis was tested at the 0.05 level of significance using t-test. Findings indicated that there is significant different between teachers in public and those in private schools on their instructional monitoring for quality teaching and learning in classroom. It was concluded among others that the Ebonyi state Ministry of Education should set up monitoring team in all the public secondary schools in the state to enhance quality teaching and learning.
