Organic fertilization to increase the productivity of the lima beans (Phaseolus lunatus L.)

The present work had as objective to evaluate the yield of two varieties of fava in function of application of organic compost and dairy waste. The experiment was carried out at the Experimental Farm belonging to the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (UFRPE). The experiment was carried out in a randomized block design in a factorial scheme [(2x3) + 4], with two varieties of Lima bean, three forms of organic fertilization plus four additional controls, in three repetitions. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and treatment means, compared by the Tukey test (P <0.05).

Squamous cell carcinoma in the foot of a cockatiel (Nymphicus hollandicus) from northeastern Brazil

A 16-year-old male cockatiel (Nymphicushollandicus) was presented with a multinodular mass at the base of the second and third digits of the right foot. Manipulation resulted in amputation of the toes. The bird showed emaciation, respiratory signs, and died. Histology revealed an infiltrative neoplasm in the deep dermis and underlying bone tissue composed of epithelial cells arranged in cords and nests. Neoplastic cells demonstrated intense immunolabeling for the anti-pan cytokeratin antibody. A severe necroheterophilic bronchopneumonia was also observed.

Catch-and-release fishing of tucunaré (cichla kelberi) and pirapitinga (piaractus brachypomus): hook type vs post-catch fish health

The growing popularity of catch-and-release fishing and consequent injuries to fish need to be studied to develop species-specific techniques that limit damage. Therefore, we tested the hypothesis that the hook type used in catch-and-release fishing affects fish health.

Sideroxylon obtusifolium (roem. & schult) t.d. penn. seedling production in different substrates

The species Sideroxylon obtusifolium (Roem. & Schult.) T.D. Penn., belongs to the Sapotaceae family, is native to the Caatinga, and currently some of its populations are going through an increasingly scarcity. Studies focused in the obtaining of seedlings of forest species using industrial residues as components of substrates have been the subject of some research, however, there is lack of information for many species, including for Sideroxylon obtusifolium. The objective of this study was to evaluate the growth of Sideroxylon obtusifolium seedlings in different substrate composition.

Prevalence of neurosurgery complications in the immediate postoperative at the intensive care unit

Neurosurgical patients are at significant risk of complications in the postoperative period. Knowledge of these events is essential, since most complications can be recognized and treated early, which increases patient survival. Methodology: Retrospective descriptive study with a quantitative approach, performed in a public oncology reference hospital in the state of Pará. The information sources were medical records of patients in the immediate postoperative period of neurosurgery admitted to the intensive care unit. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics.

Early neonatal sepsis: risk factors, with emphasis on streptococcus agalactiae infections among pregnant women

Objective: Determine the prevalence of vaginal and rectal colonization by Streptococcus agalactiae (SGB) and determine risk factors for the development of early neonatal sepsis. Methods: The study considered pregnant women seeking obstetric services in a maternity school in Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil. The study was divided into two phases: i) material collection from the vaginal and anorectal regions using swabs, to be cultured on agar-blood plates, to determine the prevalence of SGB among 60 patients after the 28th week of pregnancy.

Does the sowing depth affect crateva tapia l. seedling vigor?

The low seed germination index reduces the propagation of Crateva tapia L. Adequate sowing position and depth can maximize the stand and emergence speed of C. tapia seedlings. The objective of this study was to determine the adequate position and depth of sowing for emergence and growth of C. tapia seedlings. C. tapia seeds were sown in plastic trays containing sterile sand. Sowing at the depths of 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 cm were performed in three positions (upward, downward and side-facing hilum). The emergence, first counting, emergence speed index and seedling length were evaluated.
