Abstract:

Pluchea lanceolata commonly known as ‘Rasna’, belonging to genus Pluchea of family Asteraceae, is an important xerophytic medicinal herb. Whole plant has been used traditionally as astringent, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, hepato-protective, diaphoretic in fevers, smooth muscle relaxant, nerve tonics, laxatives and for the treatment of dysentery, lumbago, leucorrhoea, dysuria, haemorrhoids, gangrenous ulcer and disorders causing cachexia. In light of the bioprospecting interests the present investigation was to conduct phytochemical profiling of Pluchea lanceolata whole plant to assess its phytotherapeutic potential. The study envisagedmultiple extraction by successive solvent extraction for in-depth phytochemical investigation of the plant. Fluorescence analysis of different successive extract and powdered crude drug were observed under UV and ordinary light, which signifies as its characteristic feature. The qualitative chemical tests for different extract depicted presence of alkaloids, carbohydrates and glycosides, flavonoids, tannins, phenolic compounds, fixed oils and fats, protein and amino acids, steroids and terpenoids.
