Pilot study of the holistic health effects of virechan karma in eka-kushtha

Abstract: 

As the Science Ayurveda includes very vast knowledge into itself, the uniqueness of which is to treat the whole body i.e. physically as well as psychologically. This study examined the role of Psycho social factors in the process of behavior change and the salutogenic process. This observational study examined the effect of Virechan karma (Purgation) associations with participants. The validated questionnaires i.e Quality of Life, Interpersonal Support, Sarason Social Support, Beck Anxiety Inventory, Perceived Stress Scale, Self Efficacy and Life Style measurements were measured in 10 patients. Assessments were taken just before the internal oleation , immediately after the Virechan Karma (Purgation therapy) and 3 months after the Virechan Karma (Purgation therapy). Highly Significant result were found in Health Promoting Life Style (p<0.001), Self efficacy (p<0.0007), whereas very significant result were found in Beck Anxiety (p<0.0033). The Finding suggest that the Virechan therapy shows effective result not in all the aspects but in some fields by improving the validated questionnaires.
