Rp-hplc method development and validation for the simultaneous determination of bromhexine and sulbactam in pharmaceutical dosage forms

Abstract:

Bromhexine is a mucolytic agent used in the treatment of respiratory disorders associated with viscid or excessive mucus. In addition, Bromhexine has antioxidant properties. Bromhexine is intended to support the body's mechanisms for clearing mucus from the respiratory tract. The present study is to develop and validate a suitable RP-HPLC method for simultaneous estimation of Bromhexine and Sulbactam in pharmaceutical dosage forms in accordance with the ICH guidelines. Altima C18 (150 x 4.6 mm, 5mm) column was selected as the stationary phase. Phosphate buffer (pH 4), acetonitrile were taken in the ratio 40:60%v/v and used as mobile phase at a flow rate of 1.0 ml/min. The retention times of Bromhexine and Sulbactam were found to be 2.1 min & 3.2 min, respectively. The study clearly shows that the developed method can be successfully employed for routine quality control of Bromhexine and Sulbactam in drug testing laboratories and pharmaceutical industries
