Mule H. N., Abdo Ahmed Khurain, Tamboli, Y., Zeyad Ahmed Dahan, and Sayyed Hussain

Abstract:

Aldose reductase is an NADPH-dependent oxidoreductase that catalyzes the reduction of glucose to sorbitol, the first step in Aldose polyol pathway and this enzyme has been implicated in the development of late diabetic complications . As a consequence, inhibition of this enzyme has gained therapeutic significance and has been the drug target. Conjugated enone moiety present in natural product curcumin shows excellent inhibitory activity for aldose reductase and along these lines we have synthesised a series of conjucated enones and tested their activity. As expected the synthesised enones bearing difffernt functional groups on the aromatic ring display good to exclent activity.
