Evaluation of surface water quality using multivariate techniques in terengganu river basin

Surface river water is seriously experiencing contamination which threatens human health, ecosystem and plants/animals life. Cluster analysis and principal component analysiswas used to evaluatethe spatial variation and contamination sources of surface water quality data sets initiated from Terengganu river basin and originated during 2003-2007 monitoring of 30 parameters at           13 sampling stations. CA grouped monitoring stations into two based on their similarity characteristics: low pollution source (LPS) and moderate pollution source (MPS).

Presence of antibiotic resistant probiotics in health supplements

Probiotics are known for their health-promoting benefits and are widely used in food and health products. However, they serve as reservoirs for antibiotic resistant genes and risks clinical complications if transferred to pathogenic strains. Antibiotic resistant probiotic strains have been reported from various food and biological sources but the antibiogram of the corresponding probiotics from health supplements have remained largely unknown.

Physicochemical properties of probiotic frozen yogurt with different levels of glycerol and overrun

The study was design to investigate the effects of overrun and glycerol supplementation on physicochemical properties of probiotic frozen yogurt. Frozen yogurt was prepared containing different types of probiotics (Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium lactis) along with yogurt starter culture (Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus bulgaricus). In frozen yogurt mixture glycerol in 1.5, 3 and 4.5% concentrations were supplemented and frozen with 60, 80 and 100 % overrun. Frozen yogurt was stored at -20ºC after production and hardening.

Protected natural areas in Mexico: Preservation or dispossession of the biocultural heritage?

Protected Natural Areas (PNA) have represented internationally from more than 100 years ago, a strategy to preserve geographic spaces with an important biological richness, however these reservoirs have not incorporated in its design to the human element, such as an integral part in preservation activities, have dismissed the local knowledge systems, to implement a planning given by the global system.

The country as a whole was taken as the unit of analysis, the information is mainly obtained from SAGARPA and sectorial agencies, FAO, Ministry of Economy and the Bank of Mexico, the study was conducted from 1970 to 2011. Data was deflated with National Consumer Price Index for the second half of December 2010. The increases/decreases, average growth rate, inventory, production and imports were determined.

Influenced of different organic mulches in rainfed mulberry garden on micro arthropods population

The present study was conducted in department of sericulture, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore. The main aim of the study is to know the effect of different organic sources on soil arthropods under rainfed condition. The treatment T6 recorded the maximum abundance of 14.67 arthropods per 400 gm of soil which was on par with T3 (13.67 arthropods/ 400 gm of soil). T5, T4 and T7 recorded on par results. T8 gave lower abundance of below ground arthropods with 5.67 arthropods per 400 gm of soil respectively.
