Development of cognitive knowledge test scale on small animal farming practices

The knowledge test was developed to measure the knowledge of small animal farmers. In all 114 items were initially constructed on the basis of promoting thinking rather than root memorization and differentiate the well informed small animal owners from the poorly informed ones. The scores from sample respondents were subjected to item analysis, comprising of item difficulty index & item discrimination index. In the final selection, the scale consisted of 42 items with difficulty index ranging from 30-80 and discrimination index ranging from 0.30 to 0.55.

A survey on fault node identification

In recent years, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are widely used in different applications for information gathering and monitoring purpose. Large numbers of sensor nodes are deployed in the environment to increase the quality of service (QoS). A critical issue found in Wireless Sensor Network is node failure. Failure of nodes occurs due to various reasons like hardware failure, energy depletion, harsh environment, malicious attack, etc. To increase the Quality of service, it is important to identify the failure node and take necessary actions to avoid further ruin of the service.

The apomixis-specific phenomenon: Appearance of aposporous embryo sac initial cell (AIC), AIC-derived embryo sac formation and embryogenesis without fertilization in apomictic guinea grass (Panicum maximum)

Apomixis is a reproductive mode which bypasses female meiosis and syngamy to produce embryos genetically identical to the maternal parent. Apomixis is usually classified into three modes, apospory, diplospory and adventitious embryogeny. Here, we describe the mechanism of aposporous initial cell appearance in guinea grass (Panicum maximum), which belongs to aposporous mode. Based on the observation of young buds by Nomarski differential interference-contrast microscopy (DIC), there was no cytological difference between sexual and apomicts up to megasporogenesis.

P-glycoprotein expression is increased in the brain of BSE affected cattle

P-glycoprotein (P-gp) plays a major role as an efflux pump for endogenous and exogenous substrates at the blood-brain barrier and is localized in the brain at the apical side of capillary endothelial cells. Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) is marked primarily by the build-up of protease resistant misfolded prion protein (PrPres) in the brain. In the present study, the relationship between P-gp and BSE was investigated. An increase in the expression of vascular P-gp in the obex was found inclassical BSE, more prominent in the pre-clinical cases.

Risk assessment of inflammation in healthy asymptomatic first degree relatives of myocardial infarction patients

Myocardial Infarction (MI) is both polygenic and multifactorial disorder and it is known that immunological processes play key role in initial phases of leukocyte recruitment, to eventual rupture of vulnerable atherosclerotic plaque. It is now universally recognized that inflammation within the lesions contributes importantly to the initiation and progression of atherosclerotic plaque.

Bacillus sp. BVB01AS Electrogenin the two chamber microbial fuel cell

The various parameters were studied for the MFC inoculated with nano-wire forming electrogen Bacillus sp. BVB01to check their effect on the bioelectricity generation. It was observed that mineral media M6 produced highest bioelectricity of 1461.18mW/m2 (470.5mV, 0.005mA and 3.1mA/m2) on the 6th day of the MFC operation at highest external resistance of 100K. Also, it was recorded that on the optimization of various factors, a significant bioelectricity generation of 373739.13mW/m2 (245.6mV, 2.45mA and 1521.73mA/m2) was observed from the electrogen Bacillus sp.

Local perception of illness and healing: Rural health practices and development in Bangladeshi village

Like in many developing countries, in Bangladesh, health is regarded as ‘an important index of human development’ (Government of Bangladesh, 2013). To develop a global partnership for development the Government of the country puts enough weight on reducing child mortality, improving maternal health along with combating diseases with a commitment to ensure environmental sustainability (Noorani, 2008; Rahman, 2010). Health reforms, aided by national health policy and pro-poor health projects focus on immunization for children and contraception based family planning.

Studies on genetic divergence in intrahirsutum hybrids of early segregating generation (f3) in upland cotton (Gossypiumhirsutum L.)

Genetic Divergence in 86 intrahirsutum lines in early segregating generation genotypes was studied for 15 yield attributes and quality characters. The pattern of grouping of genotypes revealed that the genetic divergence was not fully related to the geographical diversity. The inter cluster distances were found to be greater than intra cluster distances, revealing considerable amount of genetic diversity among the genotypes studied.

Antagonistic effect of calcium (Ca2+) on cadmium (Cd) viz. chlorophyll, protein and oil yield of mustard plant (Brassica juncea L.) var. pusa bold

The Current study was conducted to study the antagonistic effect of Calcium (Ca2+) on Cadmium (Cd) in the soil in which mustard (Brassica juncea L.) var. Pusa Bold was cultivated. The treatment of Ca-Cd was given to the soil after 15 days of seed sowing. The Cd-toxic treatment showed retarded growth, photosynthesis, protein content, yield and oil content as well as chlorsis of young leaves, such symptoms were not observed in Ca- alleviated plants. Ca2+ alleviated plants showed higher growth, photosynthesis, protein content, yield and oil content.

Influence of integrated nutrient management on dry matter production and flowering in Davana (Artemisia Pallens Wall.)

An experiment was conducted during the year 2011-12 to study the influence of integrated nutrient management on growth and yield of Davana” at College of Horticulture, Mudigere, Karnatakaka. The dry matter production and days taken for 50 percent inflorescence differend significantly among the treatments. Application of 75%RDF + Azospirillum 2 kg ha-1 (T5) recorded significantly maximum fresh weight of leaves (7.02 g), which was on par with  T12  (6.91 g).
