Abstract:

Thyroidectomy is a surgical removal of the thyroid gland, whether partial or total. The purpose of this study was to report our experience of thyroidectomy compared to the review of the literature in Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery of the Donka National Hospital. The study was retrospective which concerned 60 cases of patients who had undergone thyroidectomy between 1 January 2009 and 31 December 2013. The prevalence of thyroidectomy was 3.22%. The subjects aged 40 to 49 constituted 46.66% of the series. We found a female predominance (81.66%). The indications were mostly multi-nodular goitre 33.33%. The surgical gesture performed was the most performed surgical gesture (43.33%). The immediate operative follow-up was simple with cure in 88.33%. They were complicated in 11.66% and were dominated by 3 cases of keloid scars 6.66% and 3 other cases of transient biological hypocalcemia 6.66%. The small percentage of complications shows that by applying the same surgical technique for all thyroid procedures by the same team of surgeons, it is possible to reduce the risk of complications in this type of surgery.
