With the globalization and democratization of virtual networks, there has been the advancement of commercial means, citing e-commerce as an example. With all this movement and advances came a new currency, which meets the needs of today's world. The study aimed to disclose the difference in algorithms between the two main virtual currencies today: Bitcoin and Litecoin. To reach the results of this research, we used the exploratory methodology, with research in books relevant to the subject, forums and academic journals, as well as other articles related to the subject and materials available in education portals, such as Google Scholar and Scielo, based on Yin's methodology (2001, 2010, 2016). The two cryptocurrencies explained in the study have many peculiarities and differences, operating in different ways and having pros and cons that make them unique in fulfilling certain purposes. It is inferred that the main difference of this new type of currency is that it does not have a centralized power to mediate financial operations, and may bring harm to irregular or criminal operations, given the anonymity and non-identification of operators that act directly. with this coin.
