To analyze the level of knowledge and expectations of patients who underwent corneal transplantation for keratoconus. An analytical cross-sectional observational study with a quantitative approach was carried out. Data were obtained through the application of questionnaires with patients undergoing corneal transplantation for keratoconus. Most patients had moderate knowledge and knew why the transplant was indicated. More than 59% of the population admitted that the surgery exceeded their expectations. As for the treatment, the patients knew how to report the type of eye drops they were using. However, a significant portion did not know what rejection was. The level of knowledge is still insufficient and this fact may be negatively influencing rehabilitation. Many patients deposit the recovery of quality of life in the process and, therefore, would admit that the transplant exceeded their expectations when they regained their visual acuity.
