Screening of starch and pectin degrading organisms from waste and evaluation of their activity on natural substrate

This study investigate the micro organism spoiling fruits during transportation, storage or waiting to be processed and rendering themselves unedible and disposal of such spoiled fruits is also a problem leading to environmental pollution. With the view of value addition of the so-called waste, the present study is emphasized on isolation of some useful microorganism from such spoiled fruit. Organism was screened specifically for starch and pectin degradation.

Development of cognitive knowledge test scale on small animal farming practices

The knowledge test was developed to measure the knowledge of small animal farmers. In all 114 items were initially constructed on the basis of promoting thinking rather than root memorization and differentiate the well informed small animal owners from the poorly informed ones. The scores from sample respondents were subjected to item analysis, comprising of item difficulty index & item discrimination index. In the final selection, the scale consisted of 42 items with difficulty index ranging from 30-80 and discrimination index ranging from 0.30 to 0.55.

A novel line flow based state estimation technique for power systems

A novel, line flow based state estimation (LFBSE) technique for power systems is presented in this paper. State variables are estimated through the constant, line flow based jacobian matrix constructed from the network equations. Unlike the conventional techniques where the outputs are the vectors of bus voltage magnitudes and angles, the results of the proposed method are in the terms of the quantities that indicate the line loadings and bus voltage magnitudes which can be used to identify the overloaded lines and limit violated buses instantaneously.

A survey on fault node identification

In recent years, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are widely used in different applications for information gathering and monitoring purpose. Large numbers of sensor nodes are deployed in the environment to increase the quality of service (QoS). A critical issue found in Wireless Sensor Network is node failure. Failure of nodes occurs due to various reasons like hardware failure, energy depletion, harsh environment, malicious attack, etc. To increase the Quality of service, it is important to identify the failure node and take necessary actions to avoid further ruin of the service.

A study of adjustment, level of aspiration, self-concept and academic achievement of visually handicapped school children of Assam

The present study was conducted on Adjustment, Level of Aspiration, self-concept and Academic Achievement of Visually Handicapped School Children of Assam. The data were collected from a sample of 400 visually handicapped children 200 boys and 200 girls who were studying in the classes VI to X (age 12 to 16 years) in six visually handicapped schools of lower and upper Assam selected by using simple random technique. The descriptive survey method was used for data collection using (i)Adjustment Inventory standardized by A.K.P Sinha and R.P.

Distribution of landholdings among schedule caste and schedule tribes in the state of Andhra Pradesh

This paper examines the distribution of landholding in general and schedule and schedule tribes in particular in the state of Andhra Pradesh.  Data was collected from statistical abstracts, various issues of Report on SC and ST Land Holdings, Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES), Hyderabad and agriculture census in India and NSSO Report. The present study shows that even after 60 years of planned initiatives and policy measures, there have not been substantial improvement in the landholding status of scheduled groups in the state of Andhra Pradesh, it has declined further.

Principals’ perception of teachers’ classroom management effectiveness in public secondary schools in Ondo state, Nigeria

The study examined Principals’ Perception of classroom management effectiveness in Ondo State Public Secondary Schools with regards to classroom preparation, instructional preparation and presentation, and behavior management. Seventy two (72) principals were selected through purposive and proportionate random sampling techniques to reflect location, gender and experience. A self constructed questionnaire which was validated and subsequently subjected to test and retest method with a reliability coefficient of r= 0.77 was used.

The apomixis-specific phenomenon: Appearance of aposporous embryo sac initial cell (AIC), AIC-derived embryo sac formation and embryogenesis without fertilization in apomictic guinea grass (Panicum maximum)

Apomixis is a reproductive mode which bypasses female meiosis and syngamy to produce embryos genetically identical to the maternal parent. Apomixis is usually classified into three modes, apospory, diplospory and adventitious embryogeny. Here, we describe the mechanism of aposporous initial cell appearance in guinea grass (Panicum maximum), which belongs to aposporous mode. Based on the observation of young buds by Nomarski differential interference-contrast microscopy (DIC), there was no cytological difference between sexual and apomicts up to megasporogenesis.
