Functional ability on selected activities of daily living among healthy older community-dwelling adults in southeast Nigeria

Background: With ageing, functional health and physical performances decline, thus restricting an elderly person’s ability from successfully carrying out the normal activities of daily living.
Aim: To determine the functional ability on selected activities of daily living among healthy older community-dwelling adults in Southeast Nigeria and to verify the null hypotheses of no significant difference on ADL with selected socio-demographic variables.

Prevalence of lifestyle-related diseases in Japanese workers

This study was conducted to clarify differences in health status according to groups of various Japanese companies and was assessed the prevalence of Lifestyle-related diseases (hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes mellitus) in Japanese workers who underwent a through health screening were evaluated. The answers from six companies employing workers (2,513 persons), comparing results of the health checkups, and number of occupational health personnel according to company kinds were obtained.

Medicinal and aromatic plants of north east India

North-East India is comprised of eight states namely Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim and supports 50% of India’s biodiversity. Meghalaya is endowed with 850 medicinal plants, of which 377 species are used by majority of people for their primary health care needs. In Assam, herbal plants are used at the household level in a self-help mode by the rural community. Arunachal Pradesh, the treasure house of biological and socio-cultural diversity in the Eastern Himalayan Region of India.

Influence of dysprosium concentration on luminescence properties of lithium borate glasses for yellow laser applications

Dy3+ doped lithium borate (LB) glasses with compositions (in mol %) (60-x) B2O3+ 20LiF + 10MgF2 + 10ZnO + xDy2O3 (where x = 0.1, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2 mol%) were prepared by melt quenching technique and have been investigated using structural measurements, optical absorption, luminescence, and decay kinetic techniques as well as Judd–Ofelt (J–O) analysis. The structure of host glass system can be accessed from XRD and Raman graphs. For these glasses, optical absorption, emission and decay measurements were carried out.

Designing of skip-lot sampling plan with multiple repetitive group sampling plan as reference plan through relative slopes

This paper explains the selection procedure for Skip lot-sampling plan of type SkSP-R which use Multiple Repetitive Group Sampling (MRGS) plan as reference plan through relative slopes at various points on the OC curve, which describes the degree of steepness of the OC curve.

A futuristic approach- industrial mathematics

The research paper discusses the growing importance of Industrial Mathematics and its useful applications in the organizations. As we all know that modelling and asymptotic analysis appear in classical applied mathematics, but industrial mathematicians need a wide and broad knowledge of mathematical ideas, algorithms and computer. They need an understanding of the problems in industry, actually they have to understand and speak the language spoken in the industries. Industrial mathematics is a mathematical modelling and scientific computing of industrial problems.

Community information centres: A step to develop the rural communities in India

Improved communication and easy information access are directly related to the social and economic development of a country. Access to telephony and ICTs world, development has become more widespread in developing countries like India. This study aims to identify the information facilities of rural communities in India and understand the challenges and opportunities. It also explores how CIC can be strap up to promote development rural communities in India. Questionnaire, documentary sources, regional planning and observations are the major methods of this study.

Understanding public library system in Vietnam

Purpose: This paper aims to provide an overview of public library system in Vietnam. Responsibilities, operations of public libraries and sources of funding for them are given, especially the National Library of Vietnam.
Methodology/approach: An in-depth reading of the relevant documents and observation are applying to understand, describe and make inferences about public library system in Vietnam.

Arsenic coagulation/flocculation with iron (iii) hydroxide: Adsorption mechanisms and stability constants of surface complexes

The adsorption of arsenic (V) on iron (III) hydroxide had investigated in function of sorbent amount, pH, and contact time. The surface complexation method is used to establish the interaction mechanisms. H3O+/OH-stoichiometry is evaluated and varied between -2 and 2, in pH range of 3 to 12. This suggests that As (V) adsorbs in this conditions, via six predominant adsorption reactions. Stability constants of predominant species which are protonated and unprotonated, are obtained. The contribution of electrostatic effect to arsenic (V) uptake by Fe-hydroxide is evaluated.

A review on desalination of water using single slope passive solar still

This article reviews single slope solar still and recent studies on the solar still systems for utilized for desalination process. The review includes basic principles of solar distillation and different modifications (optimization) suggested for improvement in distiller yield. General mathematical modeling methodology of solar stills. The efficiency and performance of the single slope solar still are also given.
