Abstract: 

Introduction: The elderly population has shown significant growth throughout the world, thus increasing the need for a broader view of this population, thus ensuring a response to their real needs.Objective: To know the main themes of scientific research developed in the area of elderly health in the nursing courses of higher education institutions in the city of Vitória da Conquista, Bahia, Brazil. Methods: This is a narrative review, carried out in theperiod from 2013 to 2018, based on publications available in databases of the institutions researched and / or the Internet, in Portuguese, with full texts. Of a total of 228 studies, 165 were excluded after screening, and 25 studies were selected for the study. Results: The main themes were immobility, cognitive incapacity, family insufficiency, postural instability, iatrogenies and diverse themes such as psychosocial aspects and psychopathological aspects. Conclusion: The themes addressed in the studies analyzed can subsidize the health actions directed to the elderly population. However, it is necessary to carry out new studies that address other important aspects of the elderly's health, in order to contribute to the health actions directed to this population, thus allowing a healthy aging and, consequently, a quality of life best.
