Economic indexes of maize under levels of water, nitrogen and planting seasons

The objective of this work was to evaluate economic indexes of maize under water and nitrogen (N) levels. The experiment was conducted in two seeding seasons (spring/summer and autumn/winter) in Rio Largo, Alagoas, Brazil, with 20 treatments and four repetitions. Maize was submitted to five irrigation levels (40, 80, 120, 160 and 200% of crop evapotranspiration - ETc) and four nitrogen fertilization rates (0, 75, 150, 225 kg ha-1 of N).

Effects of the leaves of pereskia aculeata on ingestion and biochemical parameters in wistar rats

Pereskia Aculeata Miller, also known as Ora-Pro-Nóbis (OPN), is an underutilized species that belongs to the Cactaceae family. It is mainly distributed in the southern United States and Brazil, from Bahia to the Rio Grande do Sul state, growing in stony and sandy coastal plains. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of the use of OPN leaves on the metabolic parameters of Wistar rats.

Simulation of physics experiments using the octave program case study: calculation of gravity acceleration

Objective: The calculation of some physical constants requires different lab equipment and tools and time to conduct practical experiments and repeat them in accordance with the student's manual skills in dealing with different devices and tools. These experiments are financially expensive and presented with physical risks in addition to the time taken. Therefore, we can take advantage of the computer in dispensing with devices and tools and reduce the time taken to conduct experiments. There are many programs used in automated testing, most notably Matlab.

Influence of mounting fits on the effective clearances and stresses in ball bearings

Bearings are considered among the most important elements of power transmission in machines. The main purpose of using bearings is to carry or support rotating shafts in machines to reduce friction and transmit the applied loads from the shafts to the housings. They are classified as either sliding or rolling bearings. Rolling bearings are more efficient, and therefore much more widely used in various engineering applications than other bearing types due to their lower friction, lower maintenance, and more indication signals before failure.

A sociolinguistic view of euphemism in Arabic and English: a comparative analysis

In this paper, the researcher aims to elaborate the nature of euphemisms through carrying out an analysis of euphemisms in both Arabic and English. The present contrastive study is geared mainly towards probing into the euphemistic language that Arabic language speakers and English language speakers resort to when certain tabooed topics and concepts are brought to the fore. The analysis was done in the light of Brown and Levinson's Politeness Theory (1978, 1987).
