Clarithromycin associated rash and arthralgia in a child

Clarithromycin is an oral antimicrobial used increasingly in pediatric bacterial infections. We report a case ofmaculopapular rash and arthralgia following administration of Clarithromyc in for lower respiratory tract infection in a four-year-old female child. On discontinuation of the antibiotic, the child recovered full function of the knee joint within seven days. The causality of the event assessed as per the WHO-UMC system for standardized case causality assessment criteria can be considered as ‘probable’.

The paper examines the developments in Bulgarian health care since 1989. During this period the national health system underwent a major transformation from state health care to a public insurance system. This process has been accompanied by significant legislative, organizational and functional changes and is not completed yet. The article traces the problems accumulated over the years and the tough decisions regarding health care the government faces.

Effect of patellar taping vs therapeutic ultrasound on pain and q- angle in subjects with patello femoral pain syndromme

Background: Patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) is a common problem among adolescents and young adults especially in soccer players, cyclists, rowers, volleyball players, ballet dancers, horseback riders, tennis players and runners as well as housewives.1Objective of the study was to find out whether ultrasound therapy with exercises or patellar taping with exercises is more effective on pain and muscle power, KPFPS and Q angle in patients with chondromalacia patella.

Level of depression in cancer patients seeking treatment at cancer diseases hospital in Zambia

Depression is common in cancer patients, particularly those with advanced disease. It may however occur at any stage that is from diagnosis and throughout treatment. Although the existence of the relationship between depression and cancer has been investigated for a few years now, little has been done to include psycho-therapy in the management of depression in cancer patients. As a result, patients during treatment would display some characteristics such as low performance status, low social support and low compliance in palliative care.

The prevalence of depression in women attending antenatal clinic at university teaching hospital

Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a psychiatric disorder characterized by a range of symptoms persisting for at least two weeks. According to the DSM-IV diagnostic criteria, clinical depression requires a minimum of five symptoms among which one should be a; depressed mood most of the day or nearly every day; or markedly diminished interest or pleasure in all or almost all activities of the day, nearly every day. Although the prevalence of depression is similar in pregnant, postpartum and non-pregnant women, the onset of new depression is higher during the prenatal period.

Treatment seeking behavior of people with epilepsy at the university teacing hospital and Chainama hills hospital

Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder characterized by recurrent, unprovoked seizures. It is the most common neurological disorder in Sub-Saharan Africa. It has been found that people in developing countries have low levels of access to quality healthcare and appropriate medication. Moreover, these people may seek several kinds of alternative treatments before using conventional medication. Zambia however does not have much information on the health seeking behavior of people with epilepsy.

Gender risk factors associated with parasuicide in the city of Lusaka

Suicide is perceived to be a major social problem in most countries nowadays.  The rate of suicide increased globally throughout the 1990s and much of the 2000s. It has been estimated by researchers that between eight and fourteen people per 100,000 kill themselves each year. With that, researchers encouragingly have witnessed an almost universal acceptance of the growing recognition of the role social, cultural as well as gender factors play in health and illness. Research on suicide focusing on sex has been considered as a gender based study.

Sarcocystosis infection of buffalo carcassesin basra governorate- Iraq

This study was conducted to determine the macroscopic and microscopic infection with Sarcocystis species. Two hundred buffalo carcasses in the abattoir of Ashar-Basra city were used. The macroscopic and microscopic examination included trichinoscopy method and squeezing method. The esophagus, heart, diaphragm and skeletal muscles were investigated. The results of the present study showed that the incidence of macroscopic and microscopic was 16% and 84.6% respectively, where it was noted that the incidence examine by capillaries telescope was  of 77.5% and by squeezing method was 72.2%.
