Giant diving goiter challenge for the anesthesiologist in managing a difficult airway case report

Introduction: The management of a difficult airway is variable and depends on many factors including airway examination, patient characteristics, and medical history. For patients with goiter, in addition to the standard risck factors, there are factors related to the disease. Methods: A case report of a patient with difficult airway caused by a giant goiter treated at the Amazonas State Oncology Control Center Foundation. Results: The patient was intubated awake with multimodal sedation under direct laryngoscopy.

Foreign body in the nose, ear and oropharynx of children and adolescents treated in a public reference hospital

Introduction: The aim of the current prospective study is to feature the service provided to 0-19-year-old patients diagnosed with foreign body in the nose, ear or oropharynx, in a public reference hospital, from February 2017 to November 2019. Methods: All 232 patients were subjected to full otorhinolaryngological examination before the foreign body was removed; patients’ data such as age, sex, time of evolution with foreign body, foreign body site and type, and complications were recorded in a form developed by the service itself.

Analysis of the HIV/AIDS mortality rate in the municipality of belém

Mortality rates from HIV/AIDS in Brazil have tended to stabilize since 2000, with increased survival after the advent of ART. However, the resolution of mortality from this disease was not equal among all regions. This study enables the analysis of the high and persistent mortality rate in Belém-PA and compares it with others in Brazil. Methods: Epidemiological, cross-sectional, descriptive-analytical study with a quantitative approach. Data were obtained from DATASUS and from the Ministry of Health's HIV/AIDS Epidemiological Bulletin, from August 2019 to July 2020.

Objective:to analyze the prevalence of stress, anxiety and depression in nursing professionals in critical units of covid-19, as well as its prevalence.Method:integrative literature review carried out in the informational resources PubMed, Cochrane, LILACS, BDENF, and SciELO using the descriptors: COVID-19; Intensive care units; Mental health; Anxiety; Nursing, with articles published between 2020 and 2021. Results: 10 complete studies were selected for interpretive analysis.

A hipotonia neonatal se manifesta entre o nascimento e os primeiros 28 dias de vida, tendo geralmente um quadro de sucção débil, alterações nos reflexos primitivos e importante comprometimento do desenvolvimento neuropsicomotor. Trata-se de um diagnóstico complexo, por ser a hipotonia um sinal clínico inespecífico, mas que geralmente cursa associado à doença grave.

Septal perforation & nose the most common presenting site in post covid 19 invasive fungal rhinosinusitis: our experience

INTRODUCTION: Nasal cavity is a favourable site for the growth of fungus in immunocompromised individuals due to humid conditions. There was a sudden emergence of acute invasive fungal infection cases in the second wave of the COVID-19 in India. In the present epidemic, the aggressive nature of the disease in immunocompromised patients leads to the bony septal involvement resulting in non-iatrogenic perforation. The most common nasal sites involved in IFI post-COVID-19 infection were middle turbinate followed by middle meatus and then septum.

Preparedness of the health care workforce for management of asthma at the primary health care facilties in Western Kenya

Background: Due to limited workforce at the referral or higher-level health facilities, there is a recommendation to shift task of prevention and control of some NCDs to lower level heath facilities. However, the preparedness of the workforce at primary health care facilities is poorly understood. Objectives: The aim of this study was to access the knowledge, practices and barriers on the treatment and management of asthma among health workers at the primary facilities (Level 2) in Bomet County. Methods: This study employed a cross-sectional study design.

Abordagens diagnósticas e condutas clínicas nas doenças de niemann-pick: revisão sistemática de literatura

As Doenças de Niemann-Pick caracterizam-se como distúrbios de armazenamento lisossômico e neurodegeneração progressiva. Há grande variabilidade de quadro clínico, mesmo dentro de um subtipo da doença, seja na idade de aparecimento da doença, como também tempo de vida e prognóstico. Este estudo teve como objetivo analisar as evidências científicas atuais para a abordagem diagnóstica e tratamento das Doenças de Niemann-Pick. A pesquisa caracteriza-se como revisão sistemática de literatura, e portanto um estudo secundário, realizado a partir da busca qualificada na literatura.

Restoration of endodontically treated antagonist molars using fully digital workflow with intraoral scanner integrated into the cad/cam system. clinical case report

Coronal rehabilitation of endodontically treated posterior teeth is always a challenge for dental surgeons. Based on the minimally invasive principles of adhesive dentistry, endocrown restorations are gaining in popularity. The current clinical case is of a female patient, 65 years old, with antagonist second molars endodontically treated and old restorations showing undesirable esthetics and breakage due to malocclusion of the prostheses.

Use of rh bmp-2 in maxillary sinus floor elevation, case report

The rescue of ancestral knowledge on the use of medicinal plants, through local ethnobotanical studies, is emerging as an alternative in its rescue. The objectives of this study are: i) to identify the medicinal plant species that are part of the cultural heritage of some families; ii) to determine the uses and applications of medicinal species; iii) to propagate the species of greatest medicinal use and importance, to strengthen ancestral knowledge in the community. To this end, information was collected from 25 families in the area.
