Microbiological and physico-chemical quality of the ziga dam lake in Burkina Faso

The practice of activities on the shores of the Ziga Dam Lake involves the use of products that can affect the quality of its water, thus upsetting the ecological balance of the environment. In order to prevent this damage, it is necessary to regularly monitor the quality of the lake's water, because without this, no decision can be taken to protect it. The objective of this study is to evaluate the microbiological and physico-chemical quality of the dam lake.

Multimodel neural networks using socioeconomic variables for the prediction of residential electric consumption

This work intends to focus on the use of Multimodel Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) for the projection of the residential electric demand, taking into account that this is the basis for an adequate planning of electricity distribution networks. The ANNs were developed in MATLAB®, trained according to the data recorded, and the final results of the different regions of study were compared with the official data provided by the UPME for the year 2017.

O trabalho foi conduzido na Superintendência de Trânsito e Transportes Públicos – STTP, no município de Campina Grande – PB.

Aquatic macrophyte and brewery effluent: dynamic and perspectives

Biological treatment consists on using living organisms to remove pollutes from substrates. This research aimed at evaluating and comparing the efficiency of two macrophyte species in removing polluting substances of brewery effluent, as a sustainable technologic alternative, using natural resources. The design was a system experimental in mesocosmos (open top tanks of 100 L) composed by two treatments represented by each specie (Salvinia molesta and Limnobiumlaevigatum) with four repetitions each one.

Profile of material deaths for obstetric causes

Objective: To describe the maternal mortality profile of a high-risk maternal and child hospital in the Northeast. Methods: This is a quantitative, descriptive, retrospective and cross-sectional study, carried out at Hospital Dom Malan, located in Petrolina, Pernambuco Brazil, with secondary data from medical records of women who died due to direct and indirect obstetric causes, during pregnancy or up to 42 days postpartum, with an investigation completed by the Hospital Commission for a study on Maternal Mortality at the same institution, during the period from 2013 to 2017.

Socioeconomic effects of covid-19 among Brazilian dentists at the beginning of the pandemic

This study aimed to investigate possible socioeconomic impacts that COVID-19 would cause among Brazilian dentists. An opinion poll was conducted through an online questionnaire containing socioeconomic and demographic aspects of 1240 Brazilian dentists, in addition to questions about the risks of dental care and the practice of professionals during the second week of social isolation in most states in Brazil.

Patient safety climate in public hospitals in Northeastern Brazil

We conducted a cross-sectional, descriptive, and quantitative study to assess the patient safety climate from the perspective of nursing professionals from five public hospitals in the state of Maranhão, Brazil. We applied the Safety Attitudes Questionnaire to a sample of 390 participants. Data were processed using the Statistical Package for Social Science version 22.0 and examined by analytical statistics. We found that patient safety climate was below expectations in the studied hospitals. We also identified that professionals are exposed to fragile working conditions for quality.

A multi-scale canny detection technique for automatic assessment of fatigue cracking using morphological operators

The maintenance of existing pavements with a good quality is one of the key challenges to the pavement engineers. The pavement condition monitoring and evaluation is a complex task to proceed for making decisions regarding the appropriate maintenance strategies. Generally, the Pavement Condition Evaluation involves in measuring the roughness, skidding index and pavement distresses. The fatigue cracking is one of the major distresses occurring in flexible pavements. The present research study focused on detecting the fatigue cracking using the Digital Image Processing (DIP).
