Decentralization of schools by default: challenges and opportunities in community schools on the copper-belt province of Zambia

This article is an extract from the study: ‘Decentralization and Quality Education in Community Schools on the Coper-belt Province’ which sought to investigate the decentralized structural and administrative challenges, as well as opportunities faced by community schools. A descriptive survey design was used in this study. Purposive sampling was used to select 45 head teachers, two District Education Board Secretaries, two District Resource Centre Coordinators and the Chief of Party of Education Development Centre, Time To Learn Project USAID, Zambia.

Controversies of the intellectual property concession process and the social function of property: a systematic analysis of studies on the topic

The objective of this article is to identify and analyze the studies about the controversies existing in the process of granting Intellectual Property considering the social function of the property. The procedure used was to survey the quantitative publications in five study platforms: Academic Google, Science Direct, Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), J-STAGE and Oxford Scholarship, using as keywords “função social propriedade intelectual” (in portuguese) and “social function intellectual property”. The period considered for the information gathering was from 1996 to 2018.

Diagnosis of fauna apprehension in the semi-arid region of Bahia: An analysis from the environmenral notices of violation

This paper is aimed to investigate the Environmental Notices of Violation – ENV, applied in crimes against wildlife in the Brazilian semi-arid region by IBAMA. 598 ENV were analysed, which were generated based on data from DOC IBAMA and SEI systems between January 2006 and December 2017, relative to seizures of birds, reptiles, and mammals, resulting in warnings and fines. In 100 cities in the semi-arid region of Bahia, the ENV generated administrative fines totaling R$ 15,545,027.00.

Ethnoichthyology of artisanal fishers from nossa senhora island in the lower middle part of the Sao Francisco River

We present the first record of the perception and use of fishing resources by the artisanal fishermen of the Nossa Senhora Island in Juazeiro, Bahia, Brazil, analyzing the socioenvironmental aspects, especially the traditional ecological knowledge, ethnotaxonomy, diversity of species found, use and management of fish associated with artisanal fishing developed. In the data collection, the interview with a semi-structured questionnaire was used in the community of traditional fishers in Nossa Senhora Island, between February 2017 and February 2018.

Evaluation of gals and modified gals in patients without prior musculoskeletal symptoms

Musculoskeletal (MSK) symptoms are the most common health disorders requiring medical attention, and accounting to 20% of both primary care and emergency-room visits. MSK symptoms do not receive proper teaching attention. Over the past two decades, rheumatologists from around the world have not only championed the musculoskeletal system examination but also modified the undergraduate teaching curriculum. This has led to the development and adoption of the gait, arms, legs and spine (GALS) screening along with regional examination techniques.

Supplementation with vitamin d associated to the exercise alters differently to the morphology of the brown adipose tissue in lean and obese rats

Here was evaluated the effect of chronic VD supplementation associated or not to exercise on fat accumulation in Brown Adipose Tissue (BAT) from lean and obese male rats. Obesity was induced by administration of monosodium glutamate (MSG; 4g/Kg). Control (CON) received saline. At 30th day, MSG and CON rats were weaned and subdivided in VD supplemented (12µg/Kg) or non-supplemented (NS), Exercised (E) or Sedentary (S). At 86 days of life, the rats were euthanized and white adipose tissue (WAT) and BAT depots weighted. The BAT was submitted to histological analyses.

Nurses’ knowledge, practice and associated factors regarding postoperative wound care of hospitalized pediatric patients in public hospitals of Mekelle City, North Ethiopia, 2015

Background: Complications of surgical care have become a major causes of morbidity, mortality, disability and also leads to increases in length of hospital stay and health care costs world wide. Poor postoperative wound care affects up to two thirds of operated patients and newborns and pediatric populations are at higher risk in a limited resource settings than the developed countries. Surgical wound care can prevent upto a quarter of postoperative wound infections, which depended on nurses’ evidence based knowledge and practice.

Factors affecting women fertility decline in Sudan as perceived by sudanese demographers

This study aimed to identify the factors affecting fertility decline in Sudan from the viewpoints of Sudanese demographers. It depended on primary data collected from Sudanese demographers. The study adopted descriptive statistics. The study revealed a relative fertility decline in Sudan. The important factors affecting Sudanese women fertility are delaying the age of marriage, increasing migration rates, increasing the average of age at the first marriage, increasing the level of women education, and employing women.

The effects of procurement process in devolved construction management process on quality of public building projects in Kenya: A case of Busia County

The construction sector is a key player for sustainable development. Both levels of government in Kenya (National and County) have identified construction sector as a driver of the development agenda. The devolved units (counties and constituencies) have invested quite substantial amount of public funds in infrastructure development and yet social audit and media reports have raised the concern over poor quality of the projects undertaken by these devolved units.
