Fall characterization among hospitalized elderly: Implications for nursing and patient safety

The purpose of this study was to analyze the profile of elderly patients victims of falls, in a hospital of Rio de Janeiro city, Brazil. It used a descriptive and quantitative approach; the data collection was made in documents of the institution (notifications of sentinel events), and organized with the help of Excel program, triangulating the data to enable the association of the findings with the theory.

Quality of life in patients with acute myocardial infarction: a literature review

Introduction: Quality of life (QoL) is one of the expected results for the health sector and an important condition in the evaluation of health care practices and public policies. Objective: To characterize scientific production in Brazil about QoL in patients with myocardial infarction. Methodology: This is a bibliographical review of the systematic type.

Diffuse cutaneous systemic sclerosis: A case report

Systemic sclerosis (SSc, Scleroderma) is a rare connective tissue disorder that is highly diverse in its multisystem clinical presentation and follows a variable course. Systemic sclerosis is a disease that will lead to collagen diposition and fibrosis of skin and various internal organs like lungs, kidneys, blood vessels, and gastrointestinal tract. Systemic sclerosis can be clinically discerned into two subsets based on skin findings and serological data they are limited cutaneous systemic sclerosis (lSSc) and diffuse cutaneous systemic sclerosis (DcSSc).

Diffusion dynamics of three composite resin exposed to various means present in daily life of patients

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of exposed to differents means on water sorption and solubility of three composite resin. Specimens of each composite were andomly divided in 12 groups (n=10 per group): G1 (Control): no agents; G2: cigarette smoke; G3: coffee beverage; G4: wine beverage; G5: essential oils mouthrinse; G6: smoke/coffee; G7: smoke/wine; G8 smoke/mouthrinse; G9: smoke/coffee/mouthrinse; G10: smoke/wine/mouthrinse; G11: coffee/mouthrinse; G12 wine/mouthrinse, during 28 days.

Peritoneal tabularization for inferior vena cava (ivc) replacement in animal model study (dog)

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the flap of parietal peritoneum for replacement of the inferior vena cava as interposition graft in dogs during an observation period of two months. Background: The development of reconstructive venous surgery has been hampered by the lack of suitable graft. Patency rates with grafts in the venous system are commonly less satisfactory than in the arterial system, mainly due to non-pulsatile flow velocity and the low pressure in veins.

Challenges for the nurse in communication with persons with hearing impairments

Objective: Identify challenges for the nurse practice in the process of communication with persons with hearing impairments in Family Health Strategies. Method: a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory study, carried out through interviews with the twelve Nurses who work in an administrative district of Belém, State of Pará, Brazil, from April to May 2016, being used as data collection technique the interview and for the analysis of the data derived from the speeches, the technique of content analysis proposed by Bardin.

Nutritional aspects and interventions in elderly with alzheimer's disease: review

Aging is accompanied by several intrinsic and extrinsic factors that influence the mental, physical and social health of the elderly. Among the most diverse diseases associated with people who are over 65 years, stands out Alzheimer's disease. Alzheimer's is a neurodegenerative disease and associated with age and causes physical dependence and disability. The main initial symptom is recent memory loss, and with the increasing evolution of the disease, it is verified by alterations in the cognition being they the deficiencies of language and visual /spatial functions.

Developers’ preferences to types of emerging landed properties in informal urban settlements: case of mlalakuwa – Dar Es Salaam

Developers have liberty to choose developing various types of landed properties according to the situation and opportunities presented to them. However, many questions can be raised as to why and how an informal settlement can be a preferred choice for developing landed properties. This paper focuses on the types of landed properties developers choose to develop in informal settlements.

Minimum risk estimation of scale parameter of length biased maxwell distribution with censoring under entropy loss functions

In this paper, we have discussed Length biased distribution arise when the probability of inclusion of population unit in sample is related to the value of the variable measured. For example in textile sampling modeling, Cox(1969). In this paper the appropriateness of a length biased Maxwell distribution has been given. The minimum risk estimator of its scale has been obtained under entropy loss function with the help of a type II censored sample. We have obtained that the MELO estimator is nothing but the usual maximum likelihood estimator.
