An appraisal of the knowledge, attitude and practices of meat handlers on their personal hygiene was undertaken in Gwagwalada municipal abattoir, Abuja, Nigeria. The slaughter practices in the abattoir contribute significantly to the keeping quality of meat both in the abattoir and in the retail outlets. Disease pathogens may be introduced in meat through careless handling by butchers and other meat handlers or operators, thereby constituting grave danger to public health if such contaminated meat or meat product is consumed.

Effect of substrate temperature on optical and electrical properties of CdZnSeTe thin films prepared by spray pyrolysis technique

Polycrystalline semiconducting chalcogenide thin films of CdZnSeTe are prepared on large area of glass substrate by spray pyrolysis technique. Thin films of CdZnSeTe deposited at different substrate temperatures 250°C, 275°C, 300°C and 325°C were investigated. Absorption coefficients for the films were evaluated from optical transmission spectra in the wavelength range 350nm-1100nm.Composition was confirmed from EDAX while SEM pictures shows the presence of nanotubes.

Preparation and characterization of chickpea protein concentrate

Many protein concentrates have been developed for providing different functional or physical properties to meet the requirement of various food systems. The main purpose of this research work was to isolate the most refined form of protein from chickpea and to combat the problem of malnutrition. In this research work, Chickpea (Cicer arientum L.) was collected from Monywa Township, Sagaing Region and nutritional values of chickpea flour like moisture content, ash content, protein content, crude fiber content, fat content and carbohydrate content were determined.

Seasonal variations in phytoplankton populations in two freshwater lakes at udupi district, karnataka, india

Variations in the phytoplankton communities like Cyanophyceae, Chlorophyceae, Euglenophyceae, Bacillariophyceae, and Dinophyceae in two lakes of Udupi district, Karnataka have been discussed. This lake during a certain period supported as many as 26 species of Cyanophyceae, 30 species of Chlorophyceae, 7 species of Euglenophyceae, 8 species of Bacillariophyceae and 2 species of Dinophyceae.

Isolation and characterization of bacterio phagesagainst multiple drug resistant pseudomonas aeruginosa with using the bacteriophage as a therpy in the mice model

One of the most common pathogens that are multidrug resistant and colonize burns wounds is Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This led researchers to find alternative treatment, so bacteriophages were alternative treatment methods used against bacterial infections. The phages were isolated from sewage and urine. Morphology of purified phages was examined by using the transmission electron microscopy. The titer of phage was determined by using plaque assay by serial dilutions (10-1 to 10-12).The therapeutic effectiveness of phage for treatment of mice infected with MDR P. aeruginosa was determined.

Nest architecture and management of jandaira bee (melipona subnitida ducke) in the semi-arid of Paraíba, Brazil

Our objective was to study the nest architecture and management of Jandaira bee at a commercial cultivation, located in São José do Rio do Peixe, semi-arid region of Paraiba, Brazil. Data was collected in colonies housed in rational nesting boxes, “Nordestina” model, from November 2014 to July 2015. Parameters related to the brood and food area were measured. For the brood area, the length, width and height (cm), number of brood combs per colony, number of brood cells per cm2, cell volume and cell height were measured.
