Caffeine effect on non-motor symptoms in an animal model of parkinson disease

It has been shown that A2A receptor antagonist drugs have beneficial effects on neuroprotection and control of the motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease; however, their effects on non-motor symptoms are virtually unknown. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of caffeine on non-motor symptoms in an animal model of Parkinson's Disease. The experiment was composed of two groups, the saline and the MPTP group, each composed of three subgroups.

Incidence of retinal detachment after macular surgery, a retrospective study

A retrospective non randomised study of 634 macular surgery procedures was undertaken in two academic centres. Idiopathic macular hole (IMH) surgery (n = 272) and epiretinal membrane (ERM) surgery (n = 362) were performed between 2008 and 2011. We noted the anatomical and functional results of these procedures and we studied serious complications excluding cataract. Minimum follow up was 1 year. No retinal detachment (RD) occurred in patients presenting with an intraoperative or preoperative successfully treated retinal break (RB).

Effects of electroacupuncture on body mass index and quality of life of nurses from gaffrée and guinle university hospital

Nurses in Brazilian hospitals tend to be overstressed. The aim of this study was to observe the effects of electroacupuncture on the body mass index (BMI) and quality of life (QoL) of nurses from the Gaffrée and Guinle University Hospital (HUGG). Seventy-two female nurses from the HUGG team were randomly assigned to an experimental group (EG; n = 36) and submitted to ten electroacupuncture sessions or to a control group (CG; n = 36). QoL was assessed using the WHOQOL-100 questionnaire. The body measurements analyzed were BMI, Pollock’s sum of 7 skinfolds and fat percentage.

Identification of problems experienced by teacher educators in completing the practical work of english education

Regardless of various positive efforts in teacher education, many aspects are far from satisfactory like improper implementation of curriculum, academic, unavailability of modern instructional materials, inadequate library & internet facility, problems associated to practical work and content knowledge of pupil teachers at large. The present study was an endeavor to study the various issues faced by the English teacher educators.

Knowledge, attitude and practice of cervical cancer screening among female students in tertiary institution in Calabar, Nigeria

Cervical cancer is one of the commonest cancers in Nigeria. Fortunately, it is preventable by detecting precancerous lesions early through the use of various screening tools. This screening can be possible if students are aware of the problem and also if they have positive attitude. Therefore, this study was conducted to find out the knowledge, attitude and practice of cervical cancer screening services amongst female students in University of Calabar, Cross River State. Three specific objectives and two hypotheses were formulated to guide the study.

Feelings and living of families of children with cancer in the amazon context

Objective: To describe the feelings and experiences of relatives of children with cancer in the Amazon context in a reference hospital in oncology in the city of Belém-Pará-Brazil. Methodology: Exploratory study of a descriptive nature with a qualitative approach, carried out in a Reference Hospital in Pediatric Oncology in Belém do Pará, family participants of children hospitalized with cancer. A semi-structured interview was used, through the methodological reference of the family evaluation of the Calgary Model. From there six categories were raised and discussed.

The role of trade unions in industrial relations system in South African Industry, felixton in kwa-zulu natal

This article attempts to highlight the role of trade unions in industrial relations system in South Africa: A study of Mondi Kraft industry, Felixton in Kwa-Zulu Natal. The identified roles include, resolving conflicts between the management and the employees, improving the remunerations of the employees, creating conducive forum for mediation and conciliation process within the industry. Moreover, trade unions have been in existence for many years.

Perceptions of mental health disorders: an exploratory study in some arab societies

The present study examined the perceptions and attitudes of some samples from three Arab countries in terms of psychotherapy and mental disorders. The sample consisted of 813 (366 male and 447 female) respondents from Syria, Oman and Saudi Arabia. Respondents completed an electronic questionnaire developed by the researchers to assess their perceptions and attitudes towards psychotherapy and mental disorders. The results showed that respondents from different sources had information about mental disorders, especially from books and magazines.

Fournier gangrene – a surgical emergency

Fournier Gangrene is a surgical emergency and a potentially life threatening form of necrotizing fasciitis of male genitalia. The infection most commonly arises from skin, urethra or rectal region. Predisposing factors include diabetes mellitus, local trauma, extravasation of urine, perirectal and perianal infections and surgery. Prompt diagnosis is crucial because of the rapidity with which the process can progress with a risk of septicemia and death. We present two cases of Fournier Gangrene recently treated in our hospital.
