Biochemical profile of individuals with HIV/AIDS in haart: A proposal for nutritional intervention using a bioactive food compound

AIDS currently has chronic disease status because of the side effects of HAART. A study with 91 adult subjects undergoing HAART with or without hypolipidemic and/or hypoglycemic medication. Subjects were divided into groups A (GA) and B (GB) based on HAART and GB received 3.6 kg of Bioactive Food Compound (BFC) for three months. The variables were: immunological and virologic, biochemical parameters, HAART and BFC.

Animal models in the evaluation of inflammation caused by carbohydrate-rich diets: brief scientific literature review

The quality of diet influences in development of chronic diseases as obesity and metabolic syndrome that trigger low-grade inflammatory process. With the objective of analyzing the reflexes of obesity and metabolic inflammation animal models of diseases have been proposed to induce inflammatory processes through different types of diets, such as high-carbohydrate (HCD) and high-fat diets (HFD), both of them producing deleterious effects on the body.

Student opinion for classical anatomical education associated with different teaching strategies

Objective: To evaluate the opinion of Nursing students regarding the methodology developed in the discipline of Human Anatomy, and the insertion of different didactic resources in the classes. Method: A cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach was conducted with 62 nursing students. It was observed that the majority of the students were women (90.32%).

Suicide, Law and society: Civil disobedience in perspective

The right to life is a constituent part of the legal prerogatives of the human being, guaranteed by the constitutions in several modern countries. Nevertheless, the right to die through assisted suicide in the cases of terminally ill patients and / or victims of degenerative and irreversible diseases is still taboo. The manuscript presented here aims to discuss from the point of view of the theoretical contributions of the Law, Sociology, Anthropology and Philosophy, the main issues related to suicide.

Nurses’ knowledge about ability necessary for the care of person with intestinal stoma

Objective: To verify the nurses' knowledge about the ability necessary for the care of the person with intestinal stomies. Methods: It is a descriptive, exploratory research with a qualitative approach, developed with seven nurses, in a period from April to May 2017 until saturation of the sample. The semi-structured interview was used as data collection technique, for the treatment of data, content analysis, according to the methodological referential proposed by Bardin.

Mapping of foods with whey protein by patental documents

The proteins contained in whey have a wide nutritional application and present bioactive and functional well-defined characteristics. Its wide use in the food market provided specific benefits in food and nutrition area. The objective of this study was to map the foods containing the whey protein at the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) and Espacenet®. This search resulted in a total of 46 patent documents in Espacenet® base. Documents with more than 20 years were excluded, therefore only the documents from 1995 to 2015 were used, totaling 26 documents.

Neonatal screening for Hemoglobin S

Anxiety and depression among nursing professionals of a brazilian neonatal intensive care unit

Objectives: To verify the anxiety and depression and the related factors among nursing professionals of a Brazilian neonatal intensive care unit. Methods: Descriptive, cross-sectional and quantitative study. In a sample (n = 26) of nursing workers, a form was used for socio demographic and occupational characterization; and applied the Brazilian version of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. To the data tabulated, we performed descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. Results: Anxiety and depression were present in 13 (50%) and seven (26.9%) professionals, respectively.

The effect of diabetes mellitus and retinal laser photocoagulation on corneal parameters: a specular microscopic study

Objectives: The aims of this study were to compare the endotelial structure and central corneal thickness in diabetic and non-diabetic subjects, and to evaluate the effect of retinal laser photocoagulation in patients with diabetic retinopathy on endotelial structure and central corneal thickness. Methods: Subjects were recruited from Al-Naser Eye Hospital, 110 eyes were examined and classified into three groups: diabetic, non-diabetic and diabetic retinopathy treated with laser photocoagulation.

Status of diseases and disorders of ruminants in sylhet, bangladesh

A study of ruminant diseases was undertaken to determine the prevalence and distribution of diseases based on species, age, sex, system affected, and seasonal variation at Jaintapur Upazilla, Sylhet during January, 2016 to December, 2016. A total of 791 diseased animals were examined where cattle, goat, sheep and buffalo were 538, 182, 17 and 54 respectively. Out of 538 diseased cattle, (38.66%) were male and (61.34 %) were female animals. Disease prevalence is high in old age group (81.22%) than young age group (18.77%).
