Dual-band patch antennas with catacaustic slots for wireless communication applications

It describes the development of antenna patches in microtrip with circular radiating elements defined in polar coordinates and catacaustic slots, which present multiband responses for application in wireless communications: cell phone communication, Wi-Fi and WiMAX. Inspired by the optical principle of caustic curves generated by reflection in the circumference, the catacaustic slots were introduced in patch antennas with these formats to tune their resonant properties. The proposed patch antennas were powered by microtrip lines with quarter-wave transformers for impedance adjustments.

Atmospheric dispersion study of air pollutant pm10 generated in aluminum recycling

Despite all the progress made in reducing air pollutant emissions over the last decades, air pollution still represents one of the major environmental problems in urban centers. Air quality can be assessed at local, regional, national and international levels by estimating emissions, using mathematical models and measuring the environmental concentrations of major pollutants using physicochemical methods. Through such measures, it is possible to verify whether standards and limit values for air pollutant concentrations, established or recommended by national governments.

Odebrecht and irregularities in the new airport works of goiâni

The Brazilian construction company Odebrecht took over the construction work for Goiânia’s Santa Genoveva Airport in 2003, through a consortium with Via Engenharia. The airport was only opened in 2016, however, after several stoppages due to irregularities uncovered by the Federal Audit Court (TCU) and the Federal Public Ministry in Goiás (MPF/GO).

Integrative and complementary practices: experiences and reflections in quilombola communities

According to the World Health Organization, 80% of the population makes use of traditional practices in Primary Care. Brazil’s National Policy of Integrative and Complementary Practices considers medicinal plants to be the most inserted practices in society, because they have continually been present to the family and religious environment, which apply their knowledge. The objective of this work was to know the usual integrative and complementary practices in quilombola communities of the semi-arid region of Piaui.

Embedded artificial intelligence application development proposed for a perfume engineering database treatment

Nowadays, databases are very useful for saving or registering data, information or events. Forecasting studies, autonomous decision-making control system became more accurate and easy to implement since databases had been invented. Artificial Intelligence applications show more and more effective when it comes to solving problems conventional computational algorithms cannot handle. They also show to be useful when the problem’s exceptions are unknown or cannot be easily determined.

Soil-cement and cellular concrete construction system applied to housing units under construction in Amazonas - Brazil

Construction systems in the construction industry have evolved significantly in recent decades. However, simplified building systems can also be found that have low construction costs, as well as allowing to meet the housing deficit demand for low-income populations. In this sense, this research aims to present the applicability of the use of soil-cement concrete and cellular concrete in the construction of housing units that serve low-income populations in the state of Amazonas, in urban and rural areas.

Renewable energy and sustainability: an approach to the use of photovoltaic and wind energy matrices for the amazon region

Electricity is practically indispensable for the development of a country. In this sense, for its production, it is currently widely used non-renewable natural resources such as oil, gas, water, coal, uranium and others.Aiming at the environmental protection and sustainability of these resources, it is necessary to implement measures to implement electricity generation from renewable sources such as photovoltaic and wind energy. The objective of this work is to address the renewable sources of electricity generation using the photovoltaic and wind energy matrixes focused on the sustainability

Ergonomic risk assessment in spine surgeons during live laminectomy procedure using rapid upper limb assessment tool

Background: While performing a Spine surgery, surgeon bends over the patient on the operative table and has to adapt uncomfortable postures and perform surgical manoeuvres for long duration of time. This unsuitable ergonomic environment results in multiple musculoskeletal complaints being experienced by the surgeon himself.
