Gender indices as influenced by different levels of female literacy in Odisha

Gender mapping and analysis helps in identifying the regions and districts for priority intervention. The geography of gender has emerged as an important dimension in the gender studies. In the present study, three gender indices namely, female literacy, gender gap in literacy and sex ratio were mapped district wise for all the 30 districts in Odisha. Further, seven female literacy grades (in percentages) between 30 and 100 percent female literacy rates were identified and the gender indices were compared under each female literacy grade.

Pharmacognostic evaluation of fruit of wrightia tinctoria r.br

The present study on pharmacognostic activities of fruit of Wrightia tinctoria R.Br such as fluorescence analysis of powder crude drug and their chemical behavior, consistency, color and pharmacognostic analysis of fruit extracts of W. tinctoria R.Br were studied by using methanol, petroleum ether and ethyl acetate solvents. The result reveals that, the crude drug of fruit of W. tinctoria R.Br was found sticky mass in nature in petroleum ether and ethyl acetate extracts. While, semi solid mass was found in methanolic extracts.

Correlation and path coefficient analysis in cotton

An experiment was conducted on correlation and path coefficient analysis for fibre characters, yield and yield contributing characters in upland cotton with 11genotypes for ten characters at college farm, college of Agriculture, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad during Kharif 2007-08 to 2008-09. Correlation studies revealed significant desired association with yield for boll weight and bundle strength. Bundle strength made highly significant contribution to yield. Path matrix revealed that boll number, boll weight and 2.5% span length had maximum direct positive effect on yield.

The viral disease complex of grapevine infectious degeneration and its association with grapevine fan leaf virus in Albania

Recent studies have shown that major grapevine viruses for the Mediterranean region are prevalent in the native cultivars that have been grown for long in Albanian vineyards. Infectious Degeneration disease complex caused by Grapevine Fan Leaf Virus (GFLV), and other viruses, comprises a common phenotype in the field, but GFLV detection in random samplings has shown low frequency.

Present status, problems and researchable issues of betel vine (piper betel L.) production with special reference to northern Karnataka

Betel vine (Piper betle L) is  a perennial climber Betel vine (Piper betle L) is  a perennial climber cultivated for its leaf. In India, 55000 ha and in Karnataka 7143 ha area covered under this crop. This paper is the outcome of series of field visits made to the betel vine growing areas. Significant diversity observed in production aspects and also problems related to crop production. Lack of alternative standard for vine climbing, irrigation methods, fertigation, wilt, snail and un organized marketing are major problems in northern part of Karnataka.

Codification and morphological characterization of the local varieties of corn (zea mays L.) of chad in way of extinction

In Chad, the food security constitutes a problem insofar where the agricultural production cannot satisfy the demand. The main causes of this decline are often imputed to the climate whose the worsening remains certain, but also the no availability of resources genetic of the major cereals crops. Thus, some local varieties of corn are in the way of extinction because the producers cultivate the local and exotic varieties side by side, or they exchange their seeds and caused the loss of their genetic identity.

Assessment of in vitro activity of crude extracts of berberis lycium against salmonella typhi

This Plant derived drugs have been important source of traditional health care in many parts of the world. There is increasing focus on medicinal plants as sources of new agents to combat microbial diseases. Berberis lycium is an important medicinal plant usually found in Azad Kashmir, Northern Khyber Pakhtunkhua, Baluchistan and hilly areas of Punjab, Pakistan. Since 1989, Salmonella typhi has developed resistance to conventional antibiotics of choice. The main objective of the study is to determine the in vitro activity of crude extracts of Berberis lycium against Salmonella typhi.

Effect of foot intrinsic muscle training in subjects with plantar fasciitis – A randomized clinical trial

Background: Flat foot or excessive pronation causes altered biomechanics of lower limb which leads to excessive mobility which puts increased stress on the plantar fascia. It has been found out that there is significant atrophy of foot intrinsic muscles in people with plantar fasciitis. Foot intrinsic muscle training is commonly used to control the excessive pronation. Studies have been done to know the effect of Foot intrinsic muscle training in normal subjects but no study is available in people with plantar fasciitis.

Prevalence of bovine fasciolosis in selected dairy farms of Addis ababa, Ethiopia

A cross sectional study on the prevalence of bovine Fasciolosis was carried out in selected dairy farms of in and around Addis Abeba of Ethiopia, aiming at determining the prevalence of fasciolosis. The farms are found in four sub-cities, locally called Kifile Ketemas. The dairy farms were under intensive and semi-intensive management systems. A total of 384 cattle were randomly selected and sampled which accounts for 95% (N=365) and 5% (N=19) of the samples for intensive and semi-intensive dairy farms, respectively.
