Determinants of rural households’ vulnerability to poverty in Chencha and Abaya Districts, Southern Ethiopia

This study primarily aimed to examine the determinants of rural households’ vulnerability to poverty and to profile the households according to their level of vulnerability using Feasible Generalized Least Square (FGLS) and Logistic Regression analysis with the help of data collected from a sample of 500 households in two Woredas. The general poverty line of the study area was determined to be Birr 248 per month per adult equivalent and 29.8 percent of the population in the study areas were found to be poor.

Rainwater harvesting in Kherlen River Basin, East Mongolia

Water resources of Mongolia are highly vulnerable to climatic conditions due to harsh climate with four distinct seasons, high annual temperature fluctuations, and low rainfall. Average annual temperature ranges between 8.5oC in the Gobi and -7.8oC in the high mountain region. Average annual precipitation is around 200-500 mm and total water resource is estimated at 599 km3. About 64% is surface water and 36% is actually groundwater. Mining is rapidly changing the water consumption and landscape in Mongolia.

The practices and challenges of mother tongue as a medium of instruction: The case of sidaamu-afoo

This research was intended to survey the practices and challenges of mother tongue as a medium of instruction with reference to Sidaamu-afoo. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, a descriptive research design was used. To this end, a total of 144 teachers were randomly selected from 36 first cycle primary schools in Sidama Zone; the schools were also selected in like manner. The teachers were made to fill in a close-ended questionnaire, and a semi-structured interview was held with 12 teachers who were randomly selected from those who had already filled in the questionnaire.

Development scenario and intraregional disparity in Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir, known for its strategic international location and significance, consists of three natural regions – Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, each having its own distinctive identity and economy. Yet they together constitute the state of Jammu and Kashmir uniquely different from other states of Indian Union. Study and evaluation of the physico chemical groundwater quality of an agricultural region around beni mellal city

An attempt was made to find whether or not the quality of ground water in the areas of study suitable for human consumption. Ground water samples were collected from wells in different locations within a radius of 25 km of Beni mellal city. These water samples taken from 10 sampling points in each one of 4 areas were analyzed for their physicochemical characteristics. The results show that the conductivity in the four areas is an average of about 1138 μScm-1 that is far exceeds the national standard and WHO regulatory limit of about of 500 μScm-1.
