Contemporary imaging of salivary glands

Parotid, submandibular, and sublingual glands are the major paired salivary glands. Imaging of the salivary glands has an important role in examination of morphology and function, to establish a diagnosis, for treatment, and for surgical planning. There are several options for diagnostic imaging: plain radiography, sialography, ultrasound (US), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), salivary gland scintigraphy and positron emission tomography (PET).

Silk propertiesof selected bombyx mori (lepidoptera: bombycidae) strains

This study assessed properties of silk produced by three selected strains of the domesticated silkworm Bombyx moriviz. ICIPE I, ICIPE II and Chun-Lei X Zheng Zhu reared in Kenya. Selected silk characteristics were evaluated and performance tested to determine its suitability as a textile material. The study established that winding breaks and elongation varied among the silkworm strains. The study also established that there were significant differences in the cleanliness and neatness that ranged between 97 to 94.4% and 93 to 88.9%. respectively.

Gender differences in short term memory and perception

Memory and perception are valuable possessions of mankind. But these possessions are influenced by various physical, emotional and environmental factors.  So, the present study planned to investigate the influence of gender on memory and perceptual ability. Results revealed that short term memory showed statistically significant increase in females compared to males. Perceptual ability showed an insignificant increase in males compared to females.  Thus it could be concluded that women performed well in verbal episodic memory tasks and men excelled in visuo-spatial processing.

Early negative behavior in the pediatric postoperative anesthesia care unit- interference between frequently used observational assessment tools

Central to both clinical care and research is the use of observational assessment tools that help recognition and quantification of different behaviors in young children. In clinical practice it is common to experience difficulties when trying to discriminate between emergence delirium (ED) and pain after general anesthesia. The aim of this study was to explore the possible interference between two validated scores to assess ED and pain, respectively. In this prospective observational study, we included 231 children aged 1-6 years undergoing MRI scanning under general anesthesia.
