Solid waste management strategies at the port of cotonou (Benin, West Africa)

This research studies the strategies of solid waste management in the autonomous port of Cotonou. The socio-anthropological investigations, based on the techniques of individual maintenance and direct observation, made it possible to identify the solid waste management strategies at the autonomous port of Cotonou. The participatory approach allowed all the target actors of the study to express their views on waste management strategies in the port of Cotonou.

Antifungal activity of some plant extracts against clinical pathogens

The present investigation determines the antifungal activity of the plant extracts of viz. Discorea hispida (tubers), Sterculia urens (Leaves), Dillenia indica (leaves), Celastrus paniculatus (leaves), Desmodium gangeticum (leaves) against the pathogens viz. Aspergillus niger ATCC 16404, Candida albicans ATCC 10231 and Saccharomyces cerevisiae (locally isolated). polar extracts (aqueous and methanolic) had strong antifungal activity in comparison to the non polar extracts (petroleum ether and hexane) against the pathogens studied.

Effectiveness of interventions to promote cessation of smokeless tobacco consumption in pregnancy and to identify the outcome of labour among antenatal mothers

Aim of the study: To determine the effectiveness of interventions to promote cessation of smokeless tobacco consumption in pregnancy and to identify the outcome of labour. Background: Smokeless tobacco generates health disparities among different socioeconomic groups and between genders but besides risk of health hazards as in men, women face health consequences that are unique to them, including those related to pregnancy. Tobacco consumption problems are mainly associated with lifestyle and socio-economic conditions of people. Cessation is difficult, as it is for smoking tobacco.

Pollutant dispersion modeling in low wind and stable conditions

The aim of this work is to present an analytical solution to the three-dimensional advection-diffusion equation in low wind conditions in a stable boundary layer dominated by shear. The model includes the longitudinal diffusion that can not be neglected in low wind conditions. The solution of the advection-diffusion equation is obtained applying the integral transform technique. To validate this methodology, data collected during the classic Prairie Grass experiment were employed.

Evaluation of some plant extracts on mycelial growth and sporulation density of fungal pathogens of groundnut (arachis hypogaea l.) in-vitro

The effect of autoclave and ultraviolet light-sterilized aqueous extracts of Tithonia diversifolia, Chromolaena odorata and Tridax procumbens on mycelial growth and sporulation density of fungal pathogens were also determined in vitro. Aqueous extracts of the test plants significantly (p < 0.05) reduced mycelial growth of the fungal pathogens. Tithonia diversifolia extract inhibited mycelial growth of C. arachidicola by 96.17% while C. odorata extract reduced mycelial growth of A. alternata by 90.74%. Tridax procumbens extract suppressed mycelial growth of C.

Estimation of stature from upper arm length among the hindu and sikh population of Lucknow region
