3D tomographic reconstruction of two covid-19 cases with different rt-pcr results and their clinical picture: a comparative case study

This study compared CT images by 3D processing two RT-PCR negative and positive patients respectively, to investigate the contribution of CT scans in the diagnosis of COVID-19. Two patients were blindly selected and paired for sex, age, outcome and hospitalization time, in addition to the presence of RT-PCR and CT scans of the chest on admission. For the creation of the 3D model, the free software 3D Slicer was used, based on images in the DICOM format.

Pressure injury’s indexes of patients interned in intensive care units at Brazilian university hospitals between 2015-2020

Introduction: Pressure injury is a lesion located on the skin, usually on a bony prominence, resulting from pressure alone or combined with friction. These injuries have a high incidence and prevalence in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) and constitute a significant cause of morbidity and mortality. Objective: To evaluate pressure injury indexes in patients admitted to the ICUs of Brazilian University Hospitals between the years 2015 and 2020. Materials andMethods: Bibliographic review of 20 studies, collected from the SciELO, Lilacs, PubMed and BvSalud databases.

Reduced graphene oxide as reinforcement in aluminium nanocomposites prepared by powder metallurgy

This study investigated the use of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) obtained by chemical route as a reinforcement phase in aluminium matrix nanocomposites (AMNCs) fabricated by powder metallurgy. Mechanical milling of a mixture of aluminium and rGO powders was able to form homogeneous and highly densified composites, allowing an effective interaction between matrix and reinforcement to establish. The effect of rGO content (ranging for 0.01 to 1.0 wt%) on the mechanical properties of rGO-AMNCs was investigated.

The authors are commenting on the study entitled: “Intravitreal aflibercept for diabetic macular oedema in real-world: 36-month visual acuity and anatomical outcomes” published by Lukic et al. in European Journal Ophthalmology 2020 (Doi: 10.1177/1120672120925034. Published on May 19, 2020), which assessed structural and functional outcomes of treatment with aflibercept for centre-involving diabetic macular oedema in 57 patients (64 eyes) with diabetes.

A case of gastrointestinal stromal tumor in a 92-year-old man: difficult diagnosis to successful therapy

Small bowel neoplasms are rare and often diagnosed late. This case report highlights the diagnostic difficulty and acute complications of a gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST). A 92-year-old male patient was admitted to the hospital because of melena that started a month ago. No remarkable findings were noted inendoscopy and colonoscopy examination. Due to the unavailability of an endoscopic capsule, enterotomography was performed, which showed an exophytic lesion in the jejunum loop causing segmental subocclusion, suggestive of GIST.
