Profile of patients with sepsis admitted in the intensive care unit of a teaching hospital in Brazil

The study aimed to characterize patients with sepsis in a hospital environment. This is a descriptive, cross-sectional and quantitative study, carried out from October 2017 to April 2018, in a teaching hospital in the Northeast Region of Brazil. The sample consisted of 74 patients admitted to the infirmary and the general intensive care unit. Among those surveyed, 54.1% of males, ages ranged from 20 to 90 years, with a mean of 52.9 years. In relation to the outbreak of infection, the most frequent was pulmonary (31.1%), followed by abdominal (17.6%) and urological (12.2%).

Cognitive and affective strategies for the construction of optimal learning experiences in modern physics in Ebonyi State college of education, Ikwo

This study was carried out to identify the cognitive and affective strategies for improving the teaching and learning of modern physics in Ebonyi State Colleges of Education, Ikwo in southeast Nigeria. Two research questions were developed in line with the purpose of the study. Two null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted descriptive survey design. The population of the study is 76 male and 57 female students of departments of physics and integrated science who offer courses in modern physics from the area of study.

A study of recycled high-density polyethylene with mica addition: influence of mica particle size on wetting behavior, morphological, physical, and chemical properties

This work aimed to study the influence of mica (muscovite type) particle size in recycled highdensity polyethylene (rHDPE) matrix on wetting behavior and morphological, physical, and chemical properties. The r-HDPE/mica composites were compounded with a fixed ratio of 85/15 (weight percentage), varying the mica particle size (45, 75, 100 and 125 mm). The rHDPE and composites were fed into a twin-screw extruder.

Audio games as a ludic tool for visually impaired students in elementary school

Today there are few educational institutions that carry out activities that promote entertainment, fun and the inclusion of visually impaired people in the educational environment. In this article it is presented a playful form of teaching in which there will be a greater social inclusion for the visually impaired in an institutional environment.

Network monitoring tools: enabling the management of network assets, ensuring high availability

With the advancement of technology and communication systems as monitoring tools used to manage the network essential to ensure the continuous functioning of systems and devices on a company's network. Through bibliographic research, with studies on computer network and its communication protocols, experimental, considering procedures and manuals of installation, configuration, descriptive, to verify the data collected by the tools.

Acute lymphoid leukemia (LLA): A pediatric case report in dizygotic twins

Acute leukemias are considered neoplasias that reach the hematopoietic system, resulting in rapid clonal expansion and accelerated proliferation of blood cells. In this way, the cells lose their capacity for maturation and differentiation, accumulating young cells (blasts) and without function in the bone marrow. Acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) is a neoplasm that affects cells of the lymphoid lineage, but its prevalence occurs in B-cell precursors compared to T cells.

Broadband patch antennas bio-inspired in the elliptical leaf developed with the riemann transformation for wlan and 5g applications

This paper describes the development of broadband patch antennas using Riemann conformal transformation, on the square in the Argand-Gauss plane for wireless local area network (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), and 5G band in 3.5 GHz. For this work was projected three antennas with the bio-inspired shape of the elliptical leaf(MPA R1, MPA R2, and MPA R3), using Riemann conformal transformation, for an increase of the bandwidth of the narrowband antenna (square patch antenna), fractional bandwidth of 3%, to broadband antennas, with fractional bandwidth greater than 5%.

Innovative mechanism of limulus amebocyte lysate activation to achieve specificity and sensitivity to endotoxin; comparison with recombinant factor c reagents

The Limulus Amebocyte Lysate (LAL) test is widely used for detection of endotoxin that is one of the most potent pyrogen. The LAL test is an application of the blood coagulation system that has been considered as a simple enzymatic cascade system. Recent studies revealed that the activation of Factor C, the initial factor for the coagulation is intermolecular autocatalytic reaction on endotoxin aggregates. The second coagulation factor, Factor B also seems not to be activated by simple enzymatic reaction. These activations require endotoxin aggregates.
