Variations of log diameter in clear lumber yield

The low yield and the high level of waste generated are a reality for many timber industries, the variation of the data can provide the increase of the conversion factor caused by the use of diameters with values below the desirable standard. The objective of this work was to evaluate the diameter Taeda pine wood with S2 and if there are interferences between the variations in diameter and the yield of the sawn wood. The diameter of the base and the top was checked over a period of one month, evaluating 02 loads per day, taking a sample of 32 logs per load.

Quality of life (qol) in children and adolescents with mucopolysaccharidosis

Objective: To assess quality of life (QOL) of children and adolescents with mucopolysaccharidosis, seen at a treatment center for innate errors in metabolism in Recife-PE. Method: Descriptive, cross-sectional study with a quantitative and analytical approach. The instrument (Peds-QL) was applied to caregivers of children and adolescents with Mucopolysaccharidosis. Quality of life scores were correlated with numerical variables (Pearson's correlation coefficient) and median scores associated with clinical and sociodemographic variables (Kruskall Walls test).

Automatic increment in a knowledge base by means of fuzzy system with supervised machine learning

The integration between Machine Learning (ML) and Fuzzy Systems is a recurring theme in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), specially regarding the deductive methods of a Fuzzy System, and, on the other hand, the inductive ones of ML. This article presents an experiment which integrates both approaches, thus showing that they may indeed be complementary. The experiments consists of providing a ML with a mechanism for automatic increment of its knowledge base by means of inserting examples (correctly classified by a Fuzzy Sistem) into supervised learning problems.

Cassava’s (manihotesculentacrantz) production characterization in the paraíso quilombola community, Acará, Pará State, Brazil

The production and consumption of cassava and its derivatives is part of the productive and food culture of the traditional populations of the Brazilian Amazon and, particularly, in the State of Pará. Cassava cultivation is widely disseminated throughout state; and, Acará municipality is an important producer, standing out in the cassava flour production and commercialization. The article’s objective was to evaluate socioeconomic and technological characteristics of cassava production and to identify cultivation practices in the Paraíso quilombola community, Acarámunicipality, Pará state.

Expert system development for maintenance management considering reliability and financial impact models

The electric power sector restructuring associated with the technological developments in the scope of automation, information and data analysis has led the agents involved to search solutions that contribute to the asset operation, maintenance and planning. In this sense, the present work, resulting of ANEEL R&D project PD-07469-0002 / 2018, proposed the development of an Expert System (ES) for the maintenance management of a hydraulic power plant, considering reliability analysis and financial impact models.

A theory about the fedathi sequence as a teaching methodology

The teaching posture is a significant variable in the processes developed in a didactic session, being contemplated as an object of studies in a teaching methodology born at the Federal University of Ceará and which presents solutions to problems related to the way knowledge is formed by the student from of the teacher's actions. In this article, as part of the results of the thesis work, we discuss the origin and theoretical development of this scientific method applied to the classroom and it's influence and transformation in the production of knowledge for the teacher's work.

The state of tobacco production in the world with particular reference to tobacco production in Еurope

World tobacco production has stagnated periodically, ranging from 6 to 6.5 million tonnes in the last five years. The Balkan countries, including Macedonia, along with Greece, Bulgaria and Turkey, are the largest producers and exporters of quality oriental tobacco in the region. Tobacco production in the EU is based on certain EU regulations conceptualized as the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). From 2007 to today, there have been major changes in EU policy on tobacco production, leading to a sharp decline in production in all member states, and especially in neighboring Greece.

Lightning protection on transmission lines

Installation of ground wires is the basic method for protection of an OHL against lightning. Back-flashovers are the most frequent kind of trip outs in the case when an OHL is equipped with ground wires. At medium voltage OHL with high tower footing impedance almost every lightning strike to the line causes a trip out. The secondary effect of the lightning stroke became the major concern due to strong magnetic field around the downward conductor connecting the lightning rod to the grounding system.

Mortality and exploitation of three oreochromis fish species of the kafue floodplain fishery, Zambia

Mortality and exploitation of Oreochromis andersonii, Oreochromis macrochir and Oreochromis niloticus of the Kafue Floodplain fishery were investigated between September, 2015 and November, 2015.This study was aimed at investigating the mortality and exploitation of mouth brooding tilapiines of the Kafue Floodplain fishery. Three stations that represent the major ecological habitats of the Kafue Floodplain fishery were selected. These were: Kafue Road Bridge (swamp), Namalyo (lagoon) and Kakuzu (riverine).

Red blood cell hemolytic assay: an alternative to assess cytotoxicity of essential oils

Given the growing ethical questioning regarding the use of animal testing in the analysis of toxicity research and in vitro assay validation is a viable alternative to animal replacement. In this sense, this study evaluated the hemolytic activity of four essential oils extracted from Syzygiumjambolanum, Lippiagracilis, Myracrodruonurundeuva and Bixaorellanaplants, by applying the red blood cell hemolytic assay, since it is a simple technique, low cost, and effective to screening natural extracts cytotoxicity.
