The formation of reactive oxygen species in advanced oxidation induced by cold atmospheric plasma technology

Advanced oxidation induced by cold plasma under the high voltage electrical barrier discharge exhibits a wide use in practice due to be able to produce very high concentrations of reactive oxygen species with short and long life. The reactive oxygen species generated include free radicals (•OH) and other oxidative reagents like ozone, hydrogen peroxide. The quantification of these oxidative components is truly imperative to application in wastewater treatment to design plasma reactors. The concentrations of these species might be determined by many methods.

The importance of physical education for early childhood education

Effects of leaf and seed alcoholic extracts from of annona crassiflora mart. (annonaceae) in mice

Annona crassiflora Mart. is a species of the cerrado biome in the family Annonaceae. It is a vegetable with therapeutic potential. However, it should be emphasized that its toxicity when consumed in large doses remains unknown, and clinical studies are strongly suggested for this purpose. The objective of this study was to verify the toxicological effect of leaf and seed extracts of Annona crassiflora Mart. (Annonaceae) in mice. Factors influence the separation time of the umbilical cord in healthy term newborns

Background: More than 4 million neonates died yearly because of infections, among them, umbilical cord infections contribute to one million of them, thus, proper handling and care of the umbilical cord after delivery may have a great benefit in reducing worldwide neonatal mortality. Objectives: Estimation of the mean time of separation of the umbilical cord within a limited sample size of the term newborns and assessing the influence of different factors on the time of separation of the umbilical cord.

The profile of high-risk pregnant women in prenatal dental care at a teaching hospital in Brazil

This study evaluated the epidemiological profile, dietary behavior, oral hygiene, and knowledge about prenatal dental care of high-risk pregnant women. The study sample consisted of 426 high-risk pregnant women who had prenatal care at a Brazilian teaching hospital (2017). For data collection, a questionnaire covering socioeconomic aspects, gestation, eating habits, and oral health was used. It was verified that 54.5% were aged between 19 and 29 years old, 40.6% had secondary education, 43.9% were housewives, and 72.7% earned a household income smaller than two minimum wages.

Stress and resilience in parents of children with cerebral palsy

This study aims to evaluate parenting stress and resilience, to cross-reference quantitative and qualitative ISD variables with the Connor and Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) and total stress and resilience factors, and to investigate if there is a predictive model for high stress and high resilience. A total of 92 parents of children with cerebral palsy participated in this study. The instruments used were the Socio-demographic Inventory (ISD), the Parenting Stress Index (PSI/SF) and the CD-RISC. The analyses were performed in SPSS version 20.0.

Blood meal analysis of filarial vector culex quinquefasciatus in southern Benin

To evaluate the host-feeding preference of Cx. quinquefasciatus in southern Benin, a cross-sectional study was carried out in five neighborhoods, two at Cotonou and three at Porto-Novo, from December 2017 to March 2018. In each neighborhood, 4 inhabited houses were selected as mosquito catching sites. The collection of mosquitoes was conducted by pyrethrum spray captures (PSC) from 07:00am to 9:00am every morning and twice a week.

Effects of bark flour of passion fruit on metabolic syndrome: A randomized clinical trial

Objectives: To analyze the effects of a treatment with bark flour of passion fruit in people with metabolic syndrome. Method: randomized clinical trial with a sample of 50 people with metabolic syndrome, assigned randomly to two groups: intervention group (n=25) or thecontrol group (n=25). The intervention consisted in consumingbark flour of passion fruit for eight weeks. Anthropometric measures, biochemical parameters and blood pressure were measured as the markers of metabolic control. The Mann-Whitney test was used for inter-group comparison before and after the intervention.
