Comparative study of manual and reciprocanting files on the capacity of obtaining apical patency in teeth with enlargement of the apical foramen

The aim of this study was to evaluate the ability to obtain patency in enlarged foramina using manual files and Reciproc. For this, forty-five mesial and palatal roots of lower and upper molars, respectively, were sectioned, instrumented and filled with gutta percha and AH Plus cement.

Bilateral lymphangioma on the tongue in an adult patient: an unusual case report

Introduction: Lymphangioma is a benign, hamartomatous, non-encapsulated growth malformation, consisting of an enlarged and cystic lymphatic system. Case report: Female, 36 years-old, melanoderma, complaining of “balls” on her tongue. In the anamnesis, she reported having noticed an injury on the tongue for about 08 months, asymptomatic, slow growth and bleeding to the trauma. In the intraoral examination, a lesion in the form of a papulomatous plaque sensitive to touch affecting the region of the lateral border of tongue, measuring approximately 2.3 cm x 3 cm in diameter.

Rights and social support to families of children with autism spectrum disorders: an interview with Brazilian mothers

Background: The child with autism spectrum disorders has problems with socialization and coexistence. The lack of knowledge about the problem and the difficulties that families and institutions face in dealing with inclusion do not help the development and coexistence in society. Inclusion is not simple, because it requires specialized and accessible care. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the perception of the mothers of children with autism spectrum disorders on the social support received, in order to promote a reflection on the guarantee of human rights.

Effects of valproate sodium on liver and kidneys of albino rats and the role of metformin as adjuvant therapy

Background: Valproate (VPA) which usually prescribed as its sodium salt, was approved for treatment of epilepsy either as monotherapy or in combination with other anticonvulsant drugs. It is also used in the treatment of a variety of neuropsychiatric illnesses. It was reported that it has sever toxic effects on different organs of body. Metformin is one of the most widely used oral antidiabetic drugs for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.

Gravidez na adolescencia: do fenômeno social a possíveis intervenções

Objetivo: Compreender as questões sociais e culturais envolvidas na gravidez na adolescência, identificar os fatores de risco e construir oficinas sobre desenvolvimento sexual. Material e Métodos: Foram realizados dois grupos focais com grávidas e mães adolescentes (14-17anos). Baseado nos dados dos grupos focais foi elaborado um questionário respondido por 210 alunos (sexto e nono ano) da escola local, que também participaram de oficinas sobre desenvolvimento sexual.

Screening markers for rheumatoid arthritis in sickle cell disease in antananarivo madagascar

Introduction: Sickle cell disease is a genetic disease of hemoglobin, the most common in the world. Some sickle cell patients may have autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis. The objectives of this study are to seek the correlation between immunological and inflammatory factors and osteoarticular manifestations and to make the diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis in sickle cell anemia.

Nutritional status of children from Caxiuanã National Forest, Brazil

Riverine populations of the Brazilian Amazon are considered invisible and vulnerable and their health conditions have been poorly studied. We analyzed the health of 138 children aged 0 to 9 years old living in and around the Caxiuanã National Forest, Melgaço municipality, Pará, Brazil. Anthropometric measurements, clinical examinations, and bioanthropological questionnaires were performed to compare to World Health Organization parameters. There was significant difference between boys and girls from 0 to 4 years old in Height for Age (p = 0.038), with slightly smaller boys.

Análise comportamental de recém-nascidos submetidos à redeterapia em unidade de terapia intensiva neonatal

Objetiva-se analisar o comportamento de recém-nascidos em uso de redeterapia em Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal (UTIN). Trata-se de uma pesquisa com abordagem qualitativa do tipo intervenção, realizada na Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal de um hospital filantrópico da Zona Norte do estado do Ceará. Participaram do estudo dez recém- nascidos, nascidos na Maternidade e que estavam internados na UTIN do referido hospital. A coleta das informações aconteceu no período de janeiro a agosto de 2017.

Quality of diet of wheelchair basketball players before and after a nutritional intervention

This is a quantitative quasi-experimental study with 11 male wheelchair basketball players aged between 18 and 55 years (average of 36.8 ± 9.9 years) aiming to evaluate their quality of the diet before and after a nutritional intervention. We assessed theirbody composition by measuring body mass, height, waist circumference, skinfold thickness and body fat percentage of each player. To evaluate their eating habits, three dietary records were made, considering a sports training day, a normal day and a weekend day.
