Biomechanical factors involved in cervical fractures trauma, injury mechanism, influence of musculature on injury and impact area

The trauma mechanisms that lead to a cervical fracture are complex and not well understood, since mechanisms of the same nature may culminate in different injury patterns. This study aimed to review the current literature about the biomechanical factors that contribute to cervical fractures trauma. The search was conducted in databases PubMed, LILACS, SciELO and Cochrane Library platforms. We used the descriptors "Biomechanical Phenomena", "Cervical Vertebrae" and "Fractures, Bone".

Canine and feline dimensioning for the implementation of a population control program in the city of Guarapuava, Paraná, Brazil

The objective of this work was to measure the canine and feline population in the city of Guarapuava, Paraná, Brazil. In total, 695 interviews were carried out in residences distributed in the 20 neighborhoods of the municipality. The sample size was calculated considering the total number of residences, 44,497, with a 95% confidence interval and standard error of 20%. The dog: human ratio found in the municipality was 1:1.77. This number ranged from 1.06 to 2.92 among neighborhoods. The cat: human ratio was 1:5.98.

Epidemiological profile of visceral leishmaniosis in gurupi - tocantins between the years 2013 to 2018

Introduction: Visceral Leishmaniasis is an endemoepidermal anthropozoonosis caused by a protozoa of the species Leishmania chagasi. According to brasilian health surveillance, in recent years, there has been increasing the number of cases in the northern region. Objective: Because it is an endemic pathology of great relevance in the world scenario and due to the increase in the number of cases in the north region and especially in Tocantins, research is justified to quantify and compare the trend of epidemiological indicators related to leishmaniosis.

The authors are commenting on the study entitled “Macular atrophy in neovascular age-related macular degeneration” published by Gillies et al. in Ophthalmology 2020;127(2):198-210, which analyzed the differences in the development and growth of macular atrophy over 24 months between treat-and-extend ranibizumab and aflibercept in patients with active, chronic, treatment-naïve subfoveal choroidal neovascularization secondary to neovascular age-related macular degeneration.

Life quality of dialytic patients in a reference center in the amazon region

Chronic Kidney Disease is a public health problem, whose dialysis greatly alters the patient's quality of life in the face of the changes the disease develops. The aim of this study is to assess the quality of life and the epidemiological profile of chronic kidney patients in a reference center in the Amazon Region. 103 individuals participated, of both genders, aged between 19 and 80 years in dialysis treatment. Two questionnaires were used, one referring to the epidemiological profile of the respondents and the KDQOL-SF ™ 1.3, referring to kidney disease and quality of life.

Self-medication in medical students

This is a cross-sectional study that aimed to analyze the prevalence of self-medication in medical students at a private institution in Maringá, Paraná-Brazil. The data were collected through a self-administered and semi-structured questionnaire, data from 581 students were obtained. The profile of young people showed a higher proportion between 20-24 years old, female, white, single marital status, living alone. The vast majority (96%) have used medication without a prescription, 65% say they read the package inserts and 84% said they know the adverse effects of the drugs.

Studies have suggested that meditation can be one of the tools which improve self-esteem. Hence, We had conducted a Prospective observational study on the Junior College Students’ self esteem levels, who were willing to participate in the HELP (Heartfulness Experience Life’s Potential) program (n=3084).

Manifestations forms of violence in childbirth culturally imposed

A qualitative study carried out in a teaching hospital in a basic health unit in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, which aimed to know the representations of obstetric violence with a group of women of childbearing age, with a previous history of vaginal or cesarean delivery. The results show that the majority of the interviewees wanted the normal delivery, but they did not obtain enough information about this form of birth by the health professionals who, in general, directed them to have a caesarean section.
