Association between obesity, behavioural and environmental factors among adolescents attending private colleges in Brazzaville

Introduction: The purpose of this study is to estimate the prevalence of obesity among students attending private secondary schools in Brazzaville and identify factors that contribute to weight gain. Methods: This was a cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical study of 1030 students in private schools. Data analysis was performed using Epi Info7 and SPSS 2.2 software. Pearson's Chi2 test, varied and multi-varied uni logistic regression were used. Results: among the 1030 students who responded to the questionnaire, 15.3% were overweight, and 5.1% were obese.

Vancomycin and cephalosporin use as a first choice of antimicrobial therapy in neonatal intensive care unit: impact on a late-onset sepsis

Background: late-onset sepsis continues to be an important cause of morbidity and mortality and appropriate antibiotic treatment is one of the cornerstones of successful treatment. The aims of this study were: to evaluate the rate of late onset sepsis, risk factors for disease and pathogenic micro-organisms isolated in one neonatal intensive care unit were compared following a change in antibiotic policy. Methods: the comparison was performed between three time periods: A (Sept 2010 to Aug 2011), B (Dec 2011 to Nov 2012), C (May 2013 to Apr 2014).

Adolescent health: the role of the nursing professional in adolescent health care

To point out the main activities performed by nurses through health care programs. An integrative literature review was performed in the Virtual Health Library (VHL), based on studies between 2008 and 2013 that used the descriptors: Adolescence; Primary Health Care; Adolescent Health. Through the analysis of the selected studies, two themes were selected that synthesized the production studied: health care to the adolescent and its biopsychosocial impact; and the role of nurses in adolescent health.

Risk of unstable blood glucose in patients with diabetes mellitus

Objective: to analyze the prevalence of the nursing diagnosis Risk of unstable blood glucose in people with diabetes mellitus. Cross-sectional study with 82 patients in the health units of Redenção-CE Brazil. For data collection, a specific form used with sociodemographic and clinical data and the risk factors of the diagnosis under study. The inference of the diagnosis was performed by peers of specialist nurses after the data collection completed. As for sociodemographic and clinical data, 70.73% were female, had a mean age of 61.2 years and a schooling of 4.4 years.

Maternal knowledge about breastfeeding protective factor to breast cancer

The mammary carcinoma is among the cancers with the highest incidence in the world and has been gradually increasing. Breastfeeding is among the modifiable risk factors of this pathology, thus, an allied protective factor. However, in Brazil, there is a shortage in the measures of orientation of women in relation to these factors. Therefore, this study aimed to verify whether women who breastfeed make use of this practice aware of the protective factor for breast cancer. In this way, a descriptive study with transversal and quantitative approach was developed.

O objetivo do estudo foi verificar quais as dificuldades e facilidades encontradas pela equipe cirúrgica sobre a realização do timeout em cirurgia segura.Tratou-se de uma pesquisa de campo, quantitativa, descritiva e exploratória realizada por meio de aplicação de um instrumento semiestruturado, com 30 profissionais médicos e técnicos de enfermagem atuante no Centro Cirúrgico de um hospital municipal de João Pessoa, Paraíba, Brasil.

Knowledge and practice regarding menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls

Background: Menstruation is the normal biological process and a key sign of reproductive health. Unfortunately, the taboo surrounding menstruation prevents women from articulating their needs. Thee is lack of awareness on the process of menstruation and hygienic management of the same. So the problems of poor menstrual hygiene persists in the society.
