Potential drivers, limitations and benefits in implementing iso 14001 environmental management systems for organizations in Sri Lanka

The rate of complying for ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems (EMS) certification has been generally slow in Sri Lankan Organizations compared to the adoption of other popular management systems certifications like ISO 9001 Quality Management System and ISO 22000 Food Safety Management System. Further, the awareness on the benefits of having this certification for an organization is also at very low level. The present study is focusing to get some research data on the potential drivers that could be used to adopt ISO 14001.

Size dependence of stress field around a prolate spheroidal nanosized cavity in an elastic cylindrical medium under remote torsion

When the size of materials and structures shrinks to nanometer, the influence of surface energy on their stress field becomes more important in nanoscale due to their relatively high surface-to-volume ratios compared to that of a macro-scale domain. Based on Gurtin-Murdoch surface elasticity theory, displacement potentials are used to solve the three dimensional boundary-value problems involving non-classical boundary conditions represented by the generalized Young-Laplace equations.

Terry towels – a product of textile industry

The name Terry originated from the way towels were manufactured originally. The towels are manufactured by compiling loops and then pulling them out to form a textile product. Historically, these loops were pulled out by hand and thus named from a French word “Tire” which means to pull out. Thus,A Terry towels may be described as a textile product which is made up with loops on one side or both side of the cloth. The loops enable the towels to absorb a large amount of water. These towels can be manufactured by weaving or knitting.

Portable knocks detecting notifier

Now a days demand for smart home devices are increasing with a rapid pace. Portable Knock Detecting Notifier(PKDN) is a small wireless device that instantly transforms ordinary surfaces (walls, tables, doors, furniture, countertops, & more) into a powerful touchpad. This is a very unique approach to control home devices as well as send alert notification to the user .Our device (PKDN) uses home Wi-Fi network to connect to other devices and is programmed to accept various commands through number of knocks.

Mechanical properties and macrostructure of dissimilar friction stir welding of aluminum alloys

Welding of dissimilar aluminum alloys (AA) is not reliable by using fusion welding techniques. Many fusion defects such as porosity and hot crack have been observed by these techniques due to the melting of these alloys. It can eliminate the fusion defects by using a different process technique to join these alloys without melting. One of this processes is friction stir welding. This process is a solid state joining technique which joins metals under its melting temperatures. This process uses a tool which consists a shoulder to produce heat by friction and a pin to stir the welded metals.

Mathematical modeling of structural changesin the industrialsector

The role of industry in general and mainly processing industry in maintaining economic growth is placed under the thorough point of view in this paper. Brief review of concerned literature is performed as well. Trigonometric function has been applied in measuring the structural changes in industrial sector. Practical unit of the paper deals with structural changes estimating of the structure of industry sector of Uzbekistan. Econometric analysis of industry output influence on gross domestic product has been conducted and final conclusions have been worked out in the paper.

Haze as high altitude air pollutant, central & south asia, introducing earth rotor electro-kinetic yaw

Airplane exhaust and rocket fuel at high altitudes add small quantities of air pollutants and haze from partly combusted fuel. The high altitude haze is long-lived, regional, and transported by jet streams. The high altitude haze life-time (half-life probability) is greater than at the ground. The data on carbon dioxide emissions from international travel and Southern Asiatic mountain shields may be representative of the haze. Also, any air pollutant heavier than the ambient air exerts signature physical properties.

Professionalism in mathematics teacher education and its influence on teacher practice in liberia: a case study of krtti and zrtti

This paper investigates professionalism in mathematics teacher education and its influence on teacher practice in Liberia with special reference to the KRTTI and ZRTTI. In the study, we used samplesize of 100 teachers and 23 administrators. We employed a combination of both quantitative and qualitative research methods. The quantitative approach used was a self-administered questionnaire and the qualitative approaches included use of interviews and an observation guide. The study reveals the following findings: a teacher’s professional education does affect his/her practices on the job.

Development and management of solar and wind hybrid technology for the progress of India

Energy is vital for sustaining life on earth. The scope of this paper is to study the working, sizing, optimization and control of solar-wind hybrid systems. A brief introduction to the optimization software tools namely Homer is also included. A virtual case study for designing a solar-wind hybrid system is considered. The results along with cost analysis are also presented. The case study verifies that solar-wind hybrid systems can prove to be a better option to replace the conventional sources of energy.
