Productivity performance of chemical industry in Tamil Nadu during the post-reform period

The foremost purpose of this paper is to explore the factor productivity of chemical industry in Tamilnadu during the Post-reform period from 1990-91 to 2009-10. The study established that, the labour and capital productivity is very low during the post-reform period. In conclusion of this paper implies that to improve the productivity and reduce the variations in productivity of chemical industry in Tamilnadu. Thus, government has to frame separate policy for stabilizing the growth of chemical industries in Tamilnadu.

Pesticide use pattern and awareness of pesticides users with special reference to potato growers in Nepal

This study was carried out from September, 2008 to May, 2009 to explore awareness of pesticide users in special reference to potato growers on pesticide safety labels, pesticide handling and application practices that might potentially expose them to chemical hazards. Data was based on a stratified random sample of 471 pesticide practitioners (potato growers, field workers, extension officers, and pesticide dealers) across Nepal’s’ major potato production zones using structured interview schedules.

Study of some virulence factors and antimicrobial resistance in coagulase-negative staphylococci isolated from newborns in mansoura hospitals

A prospective study was performed at NICUs of three Mansoura hospitals in Egypt over a period of 18 months from March 2011 to August 2012. The three NICUs are participants in Egyptian Neonatal Network (EGNN).344 newborns were diagnosed as suspected sepsis. 58.57% of 140 positive blood cultures were due to Gram positive pathogens. Staphylococcus epidermidis was the most common species (33 isolate), followed by S. haemolyticus (20). Antimicrobial resistance could have a substantial impact on healthcare by adversely affecting mor¬bidity and mortality.

A study on the prevalence of depression and eating disorder among females of fertile age group in Chennai

Aim: Eating disorders (ED) are among the most common psychiatric problems seen in females of reproductive age group. It has got a persistent impact, comorbid psychopathology, medical complications, and elevated mortality. This article is mainly focussed to explore the impact of depression among the adolescent young females and the women of reproductive age group. Materials and Methods: It is a questionnaire based study, where 70 females (age: 13-45 years) were selected.

Comparative study of major congenital birth defects in children of 0-2 years of age in the Gaza strip, Palestine

In the Gaza strip, congenital malformations are the first leading cause of infant deaths. The present study aims to collect and evaluate the available recorded information about the occurrence of major birth defects (BD) in the Gaza Strip in patients between 0 and 2 years of age and compare this between the two periods under review, the first 6 months 2006 and the corresponding six months in 2010. We collected the records of children between 0 and 2 years admitted with major structural birth defects (BD) in the major pediatric hospitals of the Gaza Strip.

Background: Methacrylates serve as a base for resin-based dental materials, extensively used in practice. They may cause irritation to skin, eyes, and mucous membranes, allergic dermatitis, stomatitis, etc. Acrylic monomers often cross-react. Numerous studies confirm the sensitization to methacrylates in dental professionals, but quite a few evaluate the incidence of cross-sensitization in students of dentistry and from dental technician school.

Awareness and utilization of insecticide treated nets for malaria prevention in Igbomotoru community in southern IJAW local government area of Bayelsa state, Nigeria

Background: The research work was to investigate the level of awareness and utilization of Insecticide Treated Nets (ITNs) for malaria prevention in Igbomotoru Community in Southern Ijaw LGA of Bayelsa State, Nigeria. Five research objectives include to investigate the level of awareness on ITN as a preventive measure for malaria, investigate the number of homes in possession of ITN, investigate the level of utilization of ITN for malaria prevention, and investigate reasons for non-utilization if any.

Pilocarpine application on treatment of xerostomia: state of the art

To assess applications with patented active ingredient pilocarpine and discuss their implications for further research in drug development was realized a research in some patent databases including WIPO, Espacenet, USPTO and INPI using key terms which correlates pilocarpine and xerostomia. As results was found thirteen different innovative patented formulations, mainly tablets with different content and drug delivery technologies, but also liquid and semi-solid formulations. The tablets are commercialized on the market by MGI Pharma Inc. and were approved by FDA in 1994.
