Prevalence of mental disorders in selected rural community at Trivandrum, Kerala

 The purpose of this study was to identify the prevalence of psychiatric morbidity in selected rural community of Trivandrum district. A descriptive design was used to conduct the study. A population of 447 from rural area were surveyed. A mental health screening tool was prepared by the investigators, each of which has certain subsets that describe the nature of the problem under study. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics. 5.2 % in rural area are having mental health problems and 17.2% are having substance abuse. 33.6% of children are presented with mental health problems.

An interpretative phenomenological analysis of the lived experiences of flood in a rural setting of West Bengal, India

The leading objective of the present study is to represent the meaningful and subjective insights of the lived experiences of flood among the residents of a rural setting of Ghatal (West Midnapore), West Bengal. Through Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), the study seeks to explore the insider’s perspectives of the flood that are a very habitual event at Ghatal.

Family planning means the restriction for the child’s conception and prevention through the application of different methods of contraceptives after certain number of children in the family. The small family size has been suggested or recommended by the government health institutions and the population expert of the society. The public health institution have developed and started implementation for promoting small family size by adopting the population policies, programs and different strategic plan of actions.

Assessment of liver functions tests in grand Multiparity in second trimester pregnant ladies

Background: Changes in value of certain serum liver function tests occur during normal pregnancy and an understanding of these physiological changes is necessary for the management of liver diseases.
Objective: To compare the levels of liver function tests in grand multiparas with nulliparas [control] and primiparas.
 Materials: A cross-sectional study was performed in 100 non-pregnant ladies as control group, 100 primiparity pregnant women, and 100 grand multiparity pregnant women. All pregnant women were between 20th - 30th weeks gestation.

Incidence and significance of Urogenital infections & preventive strategies of preterm Labour and premature rupture of membranes

Objective: To know the incidence of infections in preterm labour (PTL), premature rupture of membranes (PROM), neonatal morbidity and preventive strategies of preterm labour.
Methods: study consists of 100 urine and vaginal samples obtained from patients with preterm labour / PROM. The study group includes patients admitted into NRI General Hospital Labour Ward.

Objective: The present study aimed at evaluating the newly synthesized novel phenothiazine derivative (N14&N15) for memory enhancing activity in scopolamine and diazepam induced amnesic rodents using cook’s pole climbing, elevated plus maze and passive avoidance paradigm
Background: N14 and N15 are newly synthesized novel phenothiazine derivatives with substitution at N-10 position, which resembles with dopamine structure, having dopaminergic receptor agonist activity. Phenothiazines are reported to have anti-psychotic, anti-convulsant activity.

Introduction: Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is the leading cause of bacterial infections. Billions of dollars are spent on a yearly basis to treat it empirically and fruitful results cannot be obtained unless we direct our efforts to a judicious choice of antibiotics and means to avoid the increasing bacterial resistance.1, 2, 3, 7 We observed the duration after which an organism showed significant change in antibiotic susceptibility (considering 20% as a significant change).
