Extracorporeal membrane oxigenation (ecmo): Main complications

The Extracorporeal Membrane Oxigenation (ECMO) is considered a complex circulatory assistance therapy, requiring a multidisciplinary work for its use. Although there has been a significant increase in the rates of use of this hemodynamic support in recent years, with greater safety, complications can still be observed. In this context, the present study aims to identify the main complications during ECMO. It is configured in an integrative review of literature consisting of national and international scientific articles on the subject indexed in the period from 2010 to 2016.

A case report of an acquired double pylorus in a nigerian patient

An acquired double pylorus is a rare complication of peptic ulcer disease that is seen in only about 0.04 % of all upper GI endoscopies. It usually occurs as a result of a penetrating ulcer into duodenumin which case it’s called an acquired gastro duodenal fistula. A double pylorus may occasionally be a congenital occurrence. We present a case of a 57 year old Nigerian who came in with upper GI bleeding and epigastric pain following ingestion of Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) for a dislocated joint.

A rare dramatic presentation of anaplastic carcinoma of thyroid: Case report

Anaplastic carcinoma of thyroid are highly aggressive and lethal tumors and carries a dismal prognosis.we report a case of anaplastic carcinoma of thyroid in a 53 year old male patient with simultaneous lung and small bowel metastasis presented as small bowel perforation in a short span of time leaving us bewildered. We are presenting this case because we were unable to find a report of simultaneous metastases of anaplastic carcinoma of thyroid to lung and small bowel in English literature.

Minimal intervention dentistry for children with latest advancements

This Dawson and Makinson were the first to use the term minimal interventional dentistry (also referred to now as minimally invasive dentistry [MID]). This model stresses early caries detection and risk assessment, re-mineralization of demineralized enamel and dentin, caries prevention, minimally invasive operative procedures, and means to repair rather than replace restorations. The intensity of self-reported pain in undergraduate students with temporomandibulardisorder and symptoms of depression: A case-control study

Objective: To analyze the possible association of self-reported painful spots on the face between undergraduate students with temporomandibular disorder and depression. Methods: Analytical, cross-sectional, case-control study with 763 students from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of Maranhão. Thirty students were diagnosed with severe TMD (case group), which were matched by age and sex in a proportion of 1:2 with the control group: people without TMD diagnosis and without symptoms of depression.

Perspectives of foreign university students on healthcare services used in Brazil

Objective: The aim of this study was to get to know the perspective of foreign students from Portuguese-speaking countries on Brazil’s healthcare services. Methodology: This is a mixed study, with a descriptive and exploratory approach, conducted in the city of Redenção-CE, at a Brazilian federal public international university. Results: A total of 152 foreign university students living in Brazil participated in the study. The participants were essentially male (65.8%), mostly within the 20–24 year age group (63.1%).

Modulation of the immune system against the ccr5 Δ-32 variant in hiv infection

After the isolation of the HIV virus by the virologist Luc Montagnier, types I and II were characterized with some peculiarities of behavior and geography. AIDS is a disease that affects all races, social classes, sex, religion and sexual orientation. It is expressed as the viral load increases, depressing the immune system propitiating opportunistic pathogens. Responsible for entry of the viral genome into the cells, this genetic mutation was named CCR5Δ-32 for the loss of 32bp encoding the wild-type CCR5.

Dental diagnostic techniques in paediatric atients with special health care need

Paediatric population suffering of systemic pathologies and/or with different stages of disability are to be considered at high risk for dental caries development. According to recent guidelines for oral health prevention in childhood, individual additional strategies for a preventive care should be applied for these patients. Hence; we planned the present review to assess various diagnostic techniques used in paediatric patients with special health care needs.

Therapeutical interventions in university students stress reduction: an integrative review

Aim: Identify, in available Scientific papers, the therapeutical interventions that contribute to decreasing stress in University students. Method: Integrative review of published articles in Portuguese, English and Spanish in the following databases: Lilacs, Medline/Pubmed, Cuiden, Scopus, Cinahl, PSYarticles, BDENF and SciELO. The articles were submitted to analysis of methodological strictness and of evidence levels. Results: In the articles, complementary therapies were presented like Art Therapy, Aroma Therapy, Mind fullness, Music Therapy and Group Therapy.
