Synthesis, characterization and pharmacological activity study of benzimidazole derivatives

Benzimidazole is a heterocyclic aromatic organic compound. This bicyclic compound consists of the fusion of benzene and imidazole. Benzimidazole is a heterocyclic aromatic organic compound. It is an important pharmacophore and privileged structure in medicinal chemistry. It plays a very important role with plenty of useful therapeutic activities such as: antiulcers, antihypertensives, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-virals, antifungals, anticancers, and antihistaminics.

The expression of cox- 2 and tgf β in oral submucous fibrosis

Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) is a chronic disease affecting the oral cavity and is associated with inflammation and fibrosis. The major aetiological factor is arecanut. Pro-inflammatory and pro-fibrotic cytokines such as cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) respectively are stimulated by the alkaloids present in arecanut and probably have a major role in the pathogenesis of OSMF. The present study was aimed to evaluate their presence in different clinical stages and histopathologic grades of OSMF.

Endoscopic ultrasound adequacy rates using novel needle biopsy system with and without rapid onsite evaluation of various gastrointestinal and intra-abdominal solid lesions

Background and Aims: The Shark Core Fine Needle Biopsy (FNB) System is a tissue sampling device that can provide cytology and possibly higher yield histology samples. This needle system is being evaluated for adequacy in sampling of liver, pancreatic or gastric masses, and intra-abdominal lymphadenopathy visualized on prior imaging in addition to use of rapid onsite evaluation (ROSE) for adequacy. Methods: This retrospective study evaluated FNB adequacy for diagnostic purposes in 33 adults during the first six months of use. Primary endpoint was to determine adequacy of the sample.

A randomised control trial of ondansetron and metoclopramide in the prevention of post operative nausea and vomiting in thyroidectomy patients

Backgrounds: Nausea, retching and vomiting are among the most common post operative complaints next to pain for patients undergoing all surgical procedures requiring sedation and anaesthesia-general, regional or local anaesthesia. The incidence of post operative nausea and vomiting has been reported to be 1 in 1000,[1,2]. John Snow in 1848 has given extensive descriptions on nausea and vomiting[3] .He observed that vomiting was more likely to occur if the patient had eaten recently.

Effectivness of educational intervention programme on knowledge & practices regarding birth preparedness among primigravida women

Background: Maternal mortality is a substantial burden in developing countries. Improving maternal mortality has received recognition at the global level as evidenced by the inclusion of reducing maternal mortality in the Millennium Development Goals. High levels of perinatal (49 per 1,000 births), neonatal (39 per 1,000 live births) (International Institute for Population Sciences, 2007) and maternal mortality (301 per 100,000 live births) remain major public-health challenges in India.

Novel single day premedication regimen for prevention of paclitaxel- induced hypersensitivity reaction

Paclitaxel is one of the most active chemotherapy agents for the treatment of ovarian and other gynecologic cancers. Hypersensitivity reactions (HSR) remain one of the major clinical concerns in the use of paclitaxel. This report is a retrospective study assessing the rates of hypersensitivity in patients who received paclitaxel in Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research centre, Bangalore from May 2015 to July 2016. All patients received 2 doses of INJ Dexamethasone 8 mg, Inj Ranitidine 50 mg and Inj Pheniramine Maleate 44.5 mg 3 hours apart on the day of chemotherapy.

Effect of white tea (camellia sinensis) on cognitive performance

Cognitive performance is the ability to utilize the knowledge acquired by mental processes in our brains. White tea contains caffeine, L-theanine amino acid, and catechin which are known as brain function enhancer. This study examined the effect of white tea towards attention, alertness, simple reaction time, and short term memory. Research subjects were 30 males aged between 18-25 years old. Subjects were assigned to do examination before and 30 minutes after receiving 2 grams of brewed white tea. Data was analyzed with paired t test (α=0.05).
