Functional ability on selected activities of daily living among healthy older community-dwelling adults in southeast Nigeria

Background: With ageing, functional health and physical performances decline, thus restricting an elderly person’s ability from successfully carrying out the normal activities of daily living.
Aim: To determine the functional ability on selected activities of daily living among healthy older community-dwelling adults in Southeast Nigeria and to verify the null hypotheses of no significant difference on ADL with selected socio-demographic variables.

Prevalence of lifestyle-related diseases in Japanese workers

This study was conducted to clarify differences in health status according to groups of various Japanese companies and was assessed the prevalence of Lifestyle-related diseases (hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes mellitus) in Japanese workers who underwent a through health screening were evaluated. The answers from six companies employing workers (2,513 persons), comparing results of the health checkups, and number of occupational health personnel according to company kinds were obtained.

Medicinal and aromatic plants of north east India

North-East India is comprised of eight states namely Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim and supports 50% of India’s biodiversity. The analytical process control is one of the tools of quality management, it is necessary to obtain results of the analytical run within a standard of reliability and accuracy, and required by existing legislation of the country. The endodontist should be familiar with various root canal con Figurations and their variations for successful endodontic therapy. It is important to evaluate each individual case for variations. There are variations in number of root canals with altered con Figuration rarely existent in maxillary and mandibular molars can affect treatment outcome.

Isolation, Characterisation and biofilm production of e.coli from mackerel (rastrelliger Kanagurta)

Fish and fishery products are of great importance for human nutrition worldwide and provide clear health benefits. Fish can act as a source of food borne pathogens and may be a potential source of infection. A study was undertaken to find out the incidence and characterization of E.coli in fishes, determine biofilm production and antibiotic resistance of isolates. A total of 100.0 raw mackerel fish (Rastrelliger kanagurta) was collected from different markets in and around Puducherry. Fifty two (52.0%) isolates of E.coli were recovered from 100.0 samples.

Pregnant women’s knowledge and perception about antenatal care and prevention of malaria in Ghana

The study investigated pregnant women’s perceptions, beliefs and practices on the use of   Sulphadoxine Pyrimethamine (SP) for primary prevention of malaria in pregnancy. The objectives included assessing pregnant women’s knowledge and benefits of antenatal care services, attitudes and practices on antenatal clinic attendance and perceptions regarding the use of Sulphadoxine Pyrimethamine (SP) in pregnancy. An exploratory qualitative research method was used. The population included all pregnant women in a Municipality.

Beauty is all about perspective or point of view. The same thing which is beautiful in one's eyes, could be viewed as an ugly thing in another's. Understanding patient’s perceptions of their dental appearance is an important aspect of patient management which may assist dentist in planning treatment that are acceptable to the patient leading to higher level of patient satisfaction.

Knowledge and practice on prevention of obstetric fistula among skilled birth attendants in public health centers in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Background: Obstetric fistula although is eliminated in high income countries, it remains prevalent and debilitating condition in many parts of the developing world leaving women with the immediate consequences, such as leakage of urine or feces or both and has been observed since women first began delivering children despite of the fact that it is completely preventable if high quality basic and comprehensive maternal health services are available to all woman during pregnancy and childbirth by a well-trained and knowledgeable skilled birth attendants.
