The fight against poverty has been a central plank of development planning in Nigeria since independence. Observers have unanimously agreed that successive government’s interventions have failed to achieve the objectives for which they were established. It is against this background that the paper examines the various government policies targeted towards poverty alleviation in Nigeria with a view to, come up with policy recommendations for effective and efficient implementation of such policies.

Impact of climate variability on smallholder households and indigenous coping strategies in bongo district

Agriculture is one of the sectors most vulnerable to climate variability impact. The impact is very severe in Africa, where agriculture is predominantly for the daily subsistence, and where adaptive capacity is low. This study considers the Upper East Region of Ghana-Bongo district, as a case study and examines the climatic impacts on the livelihood of small holder households in the region. The study also looked at the local/indigenous coping mechanisms that small holder households have been adapting to reduce their vulnerability to climate change.

Comparative study of motor development among Indian and Iranian students a-cross sectional study

This paper aims to compare the motor development of Indian and Iranian boy′s student between the age of 13 and 18 years in speed case. The focus is on the relationship between age and motor behavior which makes the study of motor development unique from other viewpoints. Motor development includes age related changes in both posture and movement, the two basic ingredient of motor behavior. The results portrayed by means of statistical tests and standard method of sampling.

A pair of opposite security issues in the horn of Africa: Human security versus regime security in Ethiopia and Sudan

This commentary attempts to analyze the status of the two contradictory security issues of regime verse human security in the Horn of Africa. In this sub region, regime security is about the survival of the ruling elite and keeping of power in the hands of a specific clique of people and their cronies. Human security is about the welfare of the individuals rather than the defense of ruling elites.

Climate change and food security in India: Contemporary concern and issues

Climate change and its impact is a matter of great concern among all countries of the world because it has the potential to make vulnerable life on the earth. Therefore an attempt has been made here to examine the impact of climate change on the food security of India with special reference to the agro-climatic regions. The study revealed that climate change can adversely affect the all four dimensions of food security i.e. food availability, accessibility, utilization and stabilization.
