The childbirth care from the perspective of primiparous mothers and health professionals

Objective: To characterize the care during labor and childbirth in the perspective of primiparous mothers and health professionals. Method: Quantitative, cross-sectional study, conducted from April to September 2014 with 26 professionals in the obstetric center and 165 puerperal women at the Hospital de Clínicas de Pernambuco. Percentage frequencies were calculated, comparison of proportions, and application of the Chi-square test. Results: Prevalent puerperal women’s age range 18-24 years (70.3%), deliveries performed by physicians (53.3%), assisted by nurses (7.3%).

First 60 cases in the newly established pediatric cardiovascular surgery clinic

Introduction: The number of congenital cardiac diseases patients increase day by day. With the rapid improvements in the diagnosis and treatments of these patients, a higher number of equipped pediatric cardiovascular surgery clinics are required today. Material and Method: The aim in our study was to retrospectively evaluate the first 60 cases in our new-established pediatric cardiovascular surgery clinic between June 20, 2017 and April 17, 2018. Among these patients, with a wide spectrum from neonatal to 53 year-olds, 33 were male and 27 were female. The median age was 5 (0-53).

Effectiveness of different experimental models of metabolic disorders in animals

The objective of this study was to induce metabolic disorders in rats with changes in diet and environmental factors. The animals were divided in groups (n=10): control with standard diet; standard dietwith environmental change (change Light-dark cycle – 14h/10h); cafeteria diet 1 (richer in fat); and cafeteria diet 2 (richer in sugar). Animal weight and food intake were monitored weekly. A glucose tolerance test was performed monthly. After twelve weeks of treatment, the animals were euthanized.

Sickle cell disease and pregnancy: An integrative review

Objective: To analyze the scientific productions about gestation in women with sickle cell anemia. Method: It is an integrative review study carried out in the Virtual Health Library (VHL) database, using the descriptors pregnancy and sickle cell anemia, from 2008 to 2017. Results: The publications focused on the Southeast region of Brazil in which the number of cases is lower than in the other regions. The complicating gestational factors in sickle cell anemia (HF) were anemia, infections, preterm labor, teenage pregnancy, among others.

Assistive technology: Reasons that trigger its use and non use

Assistive technology is defined as a set of features, devices and services that provide or extend functional abilities, its main objective being to provide independence, quality of life and social inclusion. This study aimed to understand the reasons that trigger the use and nonuse of assistive technologies with physical disabilities. This is a qualitative study with an intentional sample of 10 participants, all of them being users of assistive technology andthe Physiotherapy Clinic.
