The role of microfinance to improve agricultural production in the traditional rain sector, Sudan

This study was carried out to investigate the role of microfinance in improving agricultural production in Wad Elhillew locality, Kassala state, Sudan. The simple random sample was adopted to select 105 farmers in the study area. A structured questionnaire was used for primary data collection. Descriptive analysis used to display the socio-economic characteristics of respondents, multiple regression and T-test were also used to test the relationships between some variables.

Profitability of maize production in the northern region of Ghana

On-farm research on profitability of maize (Zea mays, L.) production in the Northern Region of Ghana was conducted in five districts during 2014 and 2015 cropping seasons. Research fields were laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design with 16 treatments and three replications. Treatments consisted of control (T1), synthetic fertilizer treatments alone (T2, T3, T4, T5, T10, T11, T12, and T13), synthetic fertilizers and poultry manure treatments (T6, T7, T8, T9, T14, and T15), and T16 (only Sulphate of Ammonia as topdressing).

Biochemical alterations of lambda cyhalothrin (synthetic pyrethroid) against the fresh water fish, labeo rohita under short and long term exposure periods

Pesticides directly and indirectly alter the aquatic organism’s tissue biochemistry and physiology. These pesticides are posing a great threat to aquatic fauna especially to fishes, which constitute one of the major sources of protein rich food for mankind. Lambda cyhalothrin is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide used in agriculture field to control pests and increase yield. This chemical mainly affects the stomach wall and central nervous system which damage the nervous transmission. Observing the biochemical factors led to the identifications of various effects produced by the toxicants.

Use of neem (azadirachta indica) seed cake to improve lowland rice production

Objective: Soils in Burkina Faso are mostly characterized by their poverty in organic matter and nutrients. Several sources of organic matter were studied in Burkina Faso, but few scientific results are available on the use of neem (Azadirachtaindica). The current study was initiated to evaluate the effect of neemseed cake (NSC) on lowland rice productivity. The experimental design was a randomized blocks design established in Manzourin 2017.

Quality and competitiveness of coffee exports: The influence of cooperatives

Coffee production in Brazil is consolidated through changes in production management in response to the demand for quality and sustainable products. Good agricultural practices permeate all stages of production, and the various certifications, in the search for competitiveness. The financial reward and gain in competitiveness in the activity have been more perceived by the cooperative producers. The Cooperative actsis a channel of information flow on management and quality for the producer.

Effect of different phosphorus rates to soybean [Glycine max (L) Merril] varieties in yayo district ilubabor zone, Southwestern Ethiopia

Soybean [Glycine max (L) Merril] is among the most important legume crops produced in western Ethiopia. However, declining soil fertility as well as poor soil fertility management practices has limited its yields. A field experiment was conducted in Yayo District on a farmer’s training centre to investigate the effect of phosphorus on yield and yield components of soybean varieties. The treatments included factorial combinations of six phosphorus rates (0, 11.5, 23, 34.5, 46 and 57.5 kg P2O5 ha-1) and three soybean varieties [Clark-63k, Ethio-Yugoslavia and Jalale (AGS-217)].

A study of socio – economic profile of seed growers in raichur district of Karnataka

A study on entrepreneurial behaviour of seed production farmers in Raichur district of Karnataka was carried out during 2015-16. By following appropriate purposive sampling procedure 120 farmers were selected and the data was collected by personal interview method. Ex- post facto research design was followed for carrying out the study.

Evaluation of the antioxidant activity of acetal and hexane extracts ofentada mannii (fabaceae) in vitro

This study aimed to evaluate the antioxidant activity of the acetal and hexane extracts of Entada mannii (Fabaceae) after conducting the polyphenolics assay. E. mannii is a plant used in the traditional treatment of diabetes in the south-east of Coast Ivory. The quantitative estimate of the polyphenol content of the acetal extract gave the following results: Total Phenolic Content (19.74 ± 2), total flavonoids (0.69 ± 0.03) and total flavanols (0.33 ± 0.02). As for the hexane extract, the respective contents obtained for these same compounds are: 9, 641 ± 1 ;0.39 ± 0.01 and0.3 ± 0.01.

Elderly people with self-reported systemic arterial hypertension: health conditions and functional capacity

Systemic arterial hypertension with a significant incidence in the elderly population, associated with functional disability and other comorbidities, is a public health problem. This study aimed to verify the functional capacity and comorbidities of elderly patients with systemic arterial hypertension. It is a cross-sectional, population-based study using questionnaires on sociodemographic, behavioral and anthropometric data, as well as on morbidity, use of medicines and functional capacity assessment. We interviewed 286 elderly individuals who self-reported arterial hypertension.

Development transition from least developed country (LDC) to developing country: current progress and challenges of Bangladesh

Bangladesh has recently (2018) fulfilled the conditions for becoming a developing country from the least developed country which will be further reviewed by the United Nations Committee for Development Policy (UNCPD). If the progress become satisfactory, ECOSOC (Economic and Social Council) of UN will confirm graduation of Bangladesh as a developing country by 2024. Therefore, this study evaluates the development transition including current progresses and challenges ahead of Bangladesh for its smooth graduation by using World Bank and UN data.
