Overcoming the lack of expression of the sodium-iodide symporter protein in anaplastic thyroid cancer stem cells by targeting the phosphatidyl inositol 3-kinase signaling pathway

Background: Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) is rare, but it is the most aggressive thyroid cancer. Cancer stem cells (CSCs), which have self-renewal ability and can generate multi-lineage cells, are potential causative agents for ATC recurrence. To assess the role of CSCs in ATC, we evaluated the sodium-iodide symporter (NIS or SLC5A5) and Phosphatidyl Inositol 3-Kinase (PI3K) mRNA levels in the (CD133pos) CSC fraction of ATC cell lines. Methods: Using magnetic cell sorting, we isolated (CD133pos) CSCs from three ATC cell lines.

Digital radio-television emissions for information, education and entertainment

The unprecedented success of social media combined with the availability of omnipotent multimedia capturing communication devices has promoted a fervid two way interaction between broadcasters and their perspective audiences. The social media success path to preeminence, however, has created disillusioned expectations for analogous results in the arena of digital broadcasting.

Assessing vulnerability to climate change of rural fresh water and sanitation – a case study in coastal area in ho chi minh city, Vietnam

The study aimed to assess the vulnerability due to climate change (CC) of rural fresh water and sanitation (RFWS) – an interest issue because of its important role in life as well as sensitivity to CC effects; a case study in coastal area in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam (Can Gio district). By index method, applied for the first time in RFWS field, vulnerability (V) was evaluated through 51 indicators. They include 20, 12, and 19 indicators with their weights refecting exposure level (E), sensitivity (S), and adaptive capacity (AC) of the system, respectively.

Mental health nursing work in care assistance of attention deficit-hyperactive- disorder

This paper presents concepts about ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) describing its historical process and addressing the implications of this disorder. In addition, the paper describes the nurse in mental health and demonstrates the attributions of this health professional in this thematic. Objective: To describe the mental health care activities performed by the nurse to the ADHD patient.

Modulation of the immune system against the ccr5 Δ-32 variant in hiv infection

After the isolation of the HIV virus by the virologist Luc Montagnier, types I and II were characterized with some peculiarities of behavior and geography. AIDS is a disease that affects all races, social classes, sex, religion and sexual orientation. It is expressed as the viral load increases, depressing the immune system propitiating opportunistic pathogens. Responsible for entry of the viral genome into the cells, this genetic mutation was named CCR5Δ-32 for the loss of 32bp encoding the wild-type CCR5.

Dental diagnostic techniques in paediatric atients with special health care need

Paediatric population suffering of systemic pathologies and/or with different stages of disability are to be considered at high risk for dental caries development. According to recent guidelines for oral health prevention in childhood, individual additional strategies for a preventive care should be applied for these patients. Hence; we planned the present review to assess various diagnostic techniques used in paediatric patients with special health care needs.

Aim: Identify, in available Scientific papers, the therapeutical interventions that contribute to decreasing stress in University students. Method: Integrative review of published articles in Portuguese, English and Spanish in the following databases: Lilacs, Medline/Pubmed, Cuiden, Scopus, Cinahl, PSYarticles, BDENF and SciELO. The articles were submitted to analysis of methodological strictness and of evidence levels. Results: In the articles, complementary therapies were presented like Art Therapy, Aroma Therapy, Mind fullness, Music Therapy and Group Therapy.

Toxic effects of neonicotinoids on apis mellifera L. workers (Hymenoptara: Apidae)

Neonicotinoid insecticides are applied in the cultures of melon (Cucumis melo L.) to control pests of insects. However, insecticides can have indirect effects on bees, which are important pollinators of melon crops. The objective of this work was to evaluate the toxicity of neonicotinoids to the bee Apis mellifera, Linnaeus.
