ESL as means of social exclusion – english language and inequality in Brazil

Brazil is an emergent country that has made remarkable progress in social inclusion in the past twenty years. However, people from disadvantaged backgrounds face a major hurdle in their social ascension process: the difficulty experienced in acquiring good command of English. Virtually all management positions in major corporations demand fluent English of the candidates and many other doors are closed for professionals who are not fluent in English.

Sweet potatoes roots have become the focus of research in the past recent years due to their unique nutritional and functional properties. Under Brazilian climate conditions, sweet potato cultivar BRS Rubissol has high yield on average 40 tonnes per hectare and presents excellent quality for industrial processing; however, when the roots are stored at room temperature, the shelf life is over in two to four weeks due to the sprouting and weight loss (withered).

Use of foundry waste as aggregatein semi-dry precast concrete mixtures to produce paving blocks

The foundry waste generated during the production of cast iron has been studied for being used as a byproduct in civil construction industry. This study evaluated the feasibility of using two types of foundry waste— phenolic sand (PSW) and green sand (GSW)—as partial replacement material of natural fine aggregate to offer technical and environmental advantages.The foundry waste was mixed before using in order to obtain one final product with 60%wt of PSW and 40%wt of GSW.

Características sociodemográficas e condições de saúde de mulheres em privação de liberdade

Objetivo: analisar as características sociodemográficas e condições de saúde de mulheres em privação de liberdade de um município do interior da Bahia. Método: estudo epidemiológico, de caráter exploratório, descritivo, analítico e abordagem quantitativa, com prontuários de mulheres em privação de liberdade. Os dados foram submetidos à análise da estatística descritiva, organizando-se os dados numéricos em tabelas e distribuição em frequência absolutas, relativas e percentuais.

A maturity model for sustainability in product development

Incorporating business strategies and supporting long-term view for companies is a challenge. In order to help companies to move towards a sustainable business agenda, this article proposes a model to evaluate maturity in terms of sustainability in product development from the perspective of eco-efficiency and eco-effectiveness. The model was developed using the Design Research method. An initial conceptual model was developed based on a literature study. This interactive process resulted in 42 items, a maturity scale, which affords to distinguish the options in the scale.

Perfil epidemiológico e sinais e sintomas de idosos com doenças reumatológicas: uma revisão integrativa

É fundamental compreender o perfil epidemiológico e os principais sinais e sintomas de idosos com doenças reumatológicas visando embasar o desenvolvimento de ações de saúde e, assim, evitar as consequências destas doenças e o impacto sobre a funcionalidade. Neste sentido, este estudo buscou revisar a literatura científica a respeito do perfil epidemiológico e prevalência de sinais e sintomas em idosos com doenças reumatológicas. A metodologia empregada consiste em uma revisão integrativa nas seguintes bases de dados: plataforma digital Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde e Google Acadêmico.

Educação bancária e cultura do silêncio: reflexões freireanas

O trabalho objetiva compreender a relação entre a educação bancária e a cultura do silêncio à luz do pensamento freireano. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa bibliográfica realizada no âmbito do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação da Universidade Estadual do Ceará – PPGE/UECE. Como procedimentos de apreensão de dados, recorreu-se ao levantamento e à revisão bibliográfica.

Characterization of dietary fiber, including associated polyphenols, in residues of three tropical fruits subjected to different industrial processing

In this work, the main characteristics of natural products rich in antioxidant food fiber and associated compounds obtained in the industry from the bagasse of assai, cashew apple and guava are described. The components of the total dietary fiber and its soluble and insoluble fractions from the industrial process of pulping and refining were evaluated. The method used to determine the dietary fiber contents was the indigestible fraction.

O programa residência pedagógica no contexto de um instituto federal: epistemologia da prática ou possibilidade de investigação a caminho da práxis?

Esta pesquisa objetivou identificar as possibilidades e fragilidades da formação na e para a pesquisa no contexto do Programa Residência Pedagógica (RP) de um Instituto Federal de Educação Ciência e Tecnologia (RP-IF). Na pesquisa de abordagem qualitativa, utilizou-secomo instrumento de coleta de dados, documentos e um questionário online aplicado a 122 residentes.As questões da pesquisa foram: As práticas de ECS do RP-F contribuem para a formação do professor pesquisador? Quais são os limites e fragilidades da formação na e para pesquisa no RP-IF?
