Pregnant teenagers in the public schools of southern Brazil: bodies that vanish from schools!

This article integrates the results of a qualitative study that aimed to characterize the practices related to sex education and profile the treatment received by pregnant teenagers in 30 state primary schools in the city of Novo Hamburgo, Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil), with the intention of examining the processes of sex education in schools, as well as analyze the evasion and educational/social exclusion of these students. Theoretically, we have retrieved some contribution from gender studies.

Effect of strategic intention on organisational performance in Nigeria

This study was on strategic intent and organizational performance in Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti. The purpose was to identify how strategic intent and it dimensions relates with organizational performance. The design of the study was survey design. A close ended research questionnaire was used for data collection. Three hundred and thirty-eight respondents make up the study sample but two hundred and twenty-six were returned and used for the research work. Multiple regression analysis was used for the study.

The importance of the present study stems from the problematic nature of the marital relationships and their societal dimensions that stimulate some wives to murder their husbands with intention. Hence, the question of this study runs so: What are the motives and societal dimensions that stimulate the wives to kill their husbands as mentioned in previous studies. In order to find answers to this main question, the study makes use of the diagnostic and analytical approach.

Baneful life of transgender: A case studies of Odisha

The Male to Female (MTF) Transgenders in India commonly known as the Hijras are one of the hardly researched, abused, scorned, and callously neglected groups in Indian Society. This paper is part of the doctoral research submitted to the University of Mumbai entitled ‘The Status of Hijras in Civil Society: A Study of Hijras in Greater Mumbai.’ The objectives of this paper are to showcase briefly the socio economic status of hijras and to understand the problems faced by them with specific reference to their health and the harassment hijras face due to the Police.

Perceived relation of human capital development and poverty alleviation in Nigeria (1970-2016): A linear probability model approach

This study examined the relationship between human capital development and poverty alleviation in Nigeria. Specifically the study investigated the profile of poverty in Nigeria in the wake of human capital investment drive, education and health expenditures on poverty level. A Linear Probability Model (LPM) Regression approach were employed with data from 1970 to 2016 and a cross sectional data of 365 respondents in north central-Nigeria (Kogi and Niger states and Abuja FCT).

Listening factors on english language comprehension among grade 7 of father saturninourios University, Philippines

The study aimed to know the listening comprehension factors on learning English language of Grade 7 students at Father Saturnino Urios University (FSUU), Butuan City, Philippines. The socio-economic profile of the participants and the listening levels such as content, critical, and appreciative were sought. It presented the participants’ listening comprehension factors that determine their listening level for learning English language such as listening to English programs on TV, adequacy of listening instruction, and engaging in interaction using English language as medium.

Effects of acupuncture in the treatment of temporomandibular dysfunctions

Tempormandibular dysfunctions (TMDs) are the non-dental pains that most affect the orofacial region, which are multifactorial and difficult to treat. Acupuncture is a therapy that has been used with great success in the treatment of TMDs, since it acts locally in muscle relaxation and pain control, seeking the physical, mental and emotional balance of the patient. Objective: To carry out a review of the literature, evaluating the results obtained in the researches that relate acupuncture as a treatment for temporomandibular joint pain, be it joint or muscular pain.

Being elderly and living with leprosy: an analysis of the quality of life

Introduction: When the individual, in addition to the elderly condition, is affected by a stigmatizing disease like leprosy, he can suffer significant interference in his aging process, which reflects on their quality of life. Methods: Descriptive study, using a form of identification and the following instruments: WHOQOL – bref and WHOQOL – OLD. Participants in the study were elderly, affected by leprosy, in outpatient treatment. Data analysis was carried out through the EpiInfo 7 program and Microsoft Excel software.

The society of the mask: the social function of worship of the zangbetos in West Africa

In West Africa, more specifically in Togo, Benin and Senegal, an ancestral cult is practiced whose venerated entity is called Zangbeto, a term meaning guardians of the night. They act as if they were unofficial police authorities, guarding the streets, taking care of the protection of the place and the people. Zangbetos are represented by figures wrapped in structures made of straw, wood and other materials. During ceremonies, these entities display themselves by dancing and/or spinning in the center of ritual spaces.
