Factors influencing colleges of education teachers’ attitudes towards the teaching of values in Ghana

Teachers’ attitudes towards the teaching of values have often been cited as being challenging. This research work was undertaken to investigate into teachers’ attitudes towards the teaching of values in RME in the colleges of education in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The study used sequential explanatory mixed method survey and the sample size of 344 respondents selected, made up of students and tutors from the chosen colleges of education using-stage sampling technique. Questionnaire and interview guide were used to collect data.

Official communications discursive critical analysis: research of scientific productions

This work refers to a review of the Brazilian literature in electronic databases, whose main objective was to verify and analyze the productions on discursive critical analysis in official communications. Based on this principle, a bibliographic survey was carried out in the electronic databases of Scientific Electronic Library Online - Scielo. The research was based on the authors: Baktin (2003), Fairclough (2008), Queiroz (2009) among others. Initially, this article was guided by these descriptors: discursive critical analysis in official communications.

Analysing the cost of infrastruture failure in a developing economy

Infrastructure had been known as the key constraint to developing economy. Hence, this research analysed the cost of power outages to the business sector of the Nigerian economy using both a survey technique. One strong outcome of this research is that the poor state of electricity supply in Nigeria has imposed significant costs on the business sector. The size of these costs relate to the firm’s procurement of very expensive backup capacity to protect them against the even larger losses coming from frequent and long power fluctuations.

University and teaching work: challenges of the university training from neoliberal policies

In this article, we reflect on the big capital of the World Bank's proposals for higher public education in the peripheral countries. Based on bibliographical studies, the research can contribute to the debate about the subject matter. It is concluded that the bank has been imposing policies to empty the role of the State in relation to higher education and also to break the indissociability between teaching research and extension within the universities.

Income and its relationship with conscious consumption: a study with young university students in Rio

The present study identifies ideas, perceptions, attitudes and opinions of young university students residing in the city of Rio de Janeiro, concerning their sustainable consumption practices. In order to achieve this goal, a quantitative exploratory research model was used with a structured questionnaire derived from thescale developed by Antil and Bennett (1979), composed of 40 statements, covering ideas, beliefs and attitudes related to socially responsible consumption.

Explaining the exchange rate in the euro zone through non-tradable goods and the income effect

This paper shows those fundamental macroeconomics variables which explain the behaviour of the real exchange rate (RER) in the Euro Zone, with special emphasis in tariff rates. Diminishing tariffs on imports affect tradable and non-tradable sectors depending on substitution or income effects. When the substitution effect prevails, lower tariffs increase imports and the demand for foreign currency depreciates the euro. When the income effect is stronger, lower tariffs increase demand for goods in both tradable and non-tradable sectors.
