Chemical and biochemical studies of relation of tumor necrosis factor gene-polymorphism in hepatocellular carcinoma patients

Background: Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) encodes a proinflammatory cytokine that is secreted primarily by macrophages and plays critical roles in the pathogenesis of inflammatory autoimmune and malignant diseases. (TNF-α) expression may disturb immune response and may be associated with HCC risk. Objectives: To verify the role of Tumor necrosis factor-alpha gene −308G > A polymorphism in Hepatitis C virus related hepatocellular carcinoma in Egyptian patients.

Germination of corn seed persevered in oxygen depleted minienvironment

Two corn seed samples of moisture content 11.7% and 13.2% were preserved in an air oxygen depletion minienvironment, with volume concentration <2%, control samples of moisture content 11.7 % was preserved in natural atmosphere at oxygen concentration of 20.9%. Germination of the seeds was periodically examined during the preservation, at 0, 3, 6, and 9 months. The obtained test results showed that the germination, the normal and the growth of young trees, were dependent mainly on the oxygen concentration and moisture content during 9 month storage.

Inventory of ixodidea cattle tick populations in three bioclimatic stages of côte d'ivoire

In order to improve ticks campaign fight and ticks borne diseases, an inventory of Ixodideacattle tick populations was realized in three bioclimatics (subsudanese, preforest and forest) zones of Côte d’Ivoire. This study focused particularly 8 sub-prefectures regularly crossed by transhumants cattle coming from Mali and from Burkina Faso. So, from June till August 2012, a total of 480 cattle infested by ticks were sampled. Ticks established in pastures used by the cattle of selected farms of this survey were also collected according to the “flag technic”.

Protective role of chlorella vulgaris and spirulina platensis on oxidative stress and toxicity induced by 1,2 dimethylhydrazine in rats

1, 2-Dimethylhydrazine (DMH), a toxic environmental pollutant is a well establishedprocarcinogen. DMH undergoes metabolism in the liver, resulting in the production of oxidative stress. Chlorella vulgaris (CV) and Spirulinaplatenesis(SP) are the single-celled microalgae, which have been reported to have antioxidant and anticancer properties. The present study was carried out to investigate the protective roles of CV and SP against DMH-induced oxidative stress in rat liver. Rats were divided into five groups.

GC-MS analysis of Citrullus colocynthis schrader fruit extract in benzene and ethyl acetate

Citrullus colocynthis Schrader belongs to family Cucurbitaceae. It grows widely in Melghat, Maharastra India and it has been used in folk medicine by tribals. To evaluate the different medicinal properties and compound identification GC-MS is helpful. The identification of phytochemical compounds is based on the peak area, retention time molecular weight and molecular formula.

The brazilian food industry (iba): profile and technological dynamics.

This article seeks to identify the main factors behind the Brazilian Food Industries (IBA) innovation process. Initially, we tried to identify which sub-sectors within the food and beverage sector are more innovative than the others, and the role of the different explanatory factors, including competitive strategy that sustain these companies in the national market. In microeconomic incentives to innovate, our results show that there is a limitation of the food industries to innovate in relation to the other processing industries in Brazil, especially in micro and small companies.

Evaluation of hematological variables according to haplotypes in patients with users and nonusers of hydroxyurea in the sickle cell anemia

Clinical and prognostic profile of patient with sickle cell disease may vary according to their type of haplotype and fetal hemoglobin level. Objective: Relate hematological variables to the haplotypes of patients with sickle cell anemia and whether or not they use hydroxyurea. Material and methods: Cross-sectional study of patients with sickle cell anemia users and non-users of hydroxyurea. The hematological analyzes were submitted to laboratory tests as erythrogram and reticulocyte count. The dosage of HbF was obtained by means of High-performance liquid chromatography.
